According to the 1900 census, she was born in Michigan, her father was born in Ireland, her mother was born in Michigan. I was told her maiden name was McConnell from a family interview. She married John Cavanaugh between 1880 and 1883. In 1880 he's listed as a railroad worker in a boarding house in Martin, Allegan County, MI (listed as J. Cavennaugh). In the 1900 Census, their first child, Ida (?) was born Dec. 1883. They were living in Watson Twp, Allegan County, MI. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. There seem to be a lot of lines connecting to Dumfriesshire, and some of them are probably not right. I've been in touch with members of 3 different groups of McConnell researchers who suspect a connection to the Dumfriesshire McConnells. They can't all be from the same line, because their results from DNA testing are too different. One of the men who has suspected such a connection is the Robert C. McConnell who has the dsolar website. He is from the line of the clan chiefs, which is part of a group called the R1a haplogroup. This means that he can't be from the same line as either of the other 2 groups, which are in a very distantly related (to R1a) group called the R1b haplogroup. The two groups of R1b McConnell researchers have results that are quite different, suggesting that the two groups in R1b are not closely related. One of the groups has matches in Dumfriesshire with other surnames, suggesting that their ancestors were in the area before the adoption of surnames. If I had to guess which group descends from the two men from Dumfriesshire, this is the group I would pick, but there's no proof yet. It's even possible that none of these groups descends from the Dumfriesshire immigrants, but I doubt that very much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have never been able to prove that this is my family, so you have Barbara to thank for most of my information. It seems possible that the girl Mary listed first among the girls in the will of William was his oldest daughter, and that would fit well with a birthdate around 1740, since William and his wife Margaret had six children when he wrote the will in 1759, and William thought it possible that they would have more. So I wonder if she was your Maria Eva. Perhaps it is just a coincidence that in Martha's McConnell family, the eldest daughter of a later generation was named Eva, but there may be some sort of a connection. It would be interesting to know the names of the children of your Maria Eva, and also to know whether there are some names that can be found in her husband's Bitz family and others that can't be accounted for among Bitz relations. I don't know if I can find anything more about this family in my notes, but I will look. I forwarded your inquiry to Barbara in case she can add to what I know. I am actually researching George Bitz and his wife Maria Eva (last name unknown). They had 7 children in Northampton Co. I was pursuing the McConnell family as a possible lead to Maria Eva's family since families often bought and sold land to each other. Does your McConnell family have any relation to the Bitz family, or have a Maria Eva or Eve McConnell born around 1740? Thank you for checking. She said that she is really busy researching one of her other families, and encouraged me to share her information with you. I need to do some typing to share her information, so it might help to know more about your starting point for research in Northampton County. Then I can start with whatever seems most relevant to your quest. Did the list of heirs of William McConnell whose will was proven in 1760 seem promising? I would guess that the William who was involved in the later transaction was the son of the older William, but I don't know for sure offhand. I did look at Northampton County deed index entries myself, but I don't think that I went the extra mile to look at the actual deeds. I'm guessing that if you know about a 1775 poll deed involving William McConnell, you have also looked at other deed index entries for William and other McConnells in Northampton County. Is that right? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: ksaxe Surnames: McConnell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcconnell/2511.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have looked at some records for this William McConnell, because I have a McConnell family from Sussex and Morris Counties in NJ, and other researchers have discovered some records that connect William McConnell of Northampton Co. to some McConnells of Warren County, NJ, which is east of Northampton Co. and south of Sussex County. In fact Warren County was part of Sussex County until about 1825, but I can't link my McConnell family to that location. This week I've been continuing a conversation with a Warren County McConnell researcher who probably descends from William, and I just let her know about your interest in William. A researcher by the name of Barbara Parks shared information with me about a William McConnell of Lehigh Township, Northampton County who wrote a will 27 June 1759 which was proven 28 February 1760. The will named his children James, William, Mary, Martha, Lydia, and Margaret, and "such other Child or Children of mine as my said Wife may happen to bear in my Life Time or be ensient (sic) with at the time of my Decease..." were also included as heirs. His wife's given name was Margaret. I am interested in this family myself, but Barbara may know more about them than I do. Maybe she will see one of your posts and respond, but I will also try to give her a heads-up via e-mail. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
