Siblings from the marriage of James O'Hanlon and Elizabeth/ Betty Ann Mc Clinchy: John baptised 28 th October 1849 James baptised 18 th December 1853 Matthew baptised 10th December 1855 Elizabeth baptised 8th April 1861 (Sponsors/Godparents John O'Hanlon and Catherine O'Hanlon). Mary baptised 8th April 1861 (sponsors William (Mc) Geary and Sarah O'Toole). The record for Simon shows his parents as James O'Hanlon and Bridget Mc Clinchy, and Matthew as James O'Hanlon and Ann Clynchy see below: Simon baptised 8th May 1864 (Sponsors John O'Hanlon and Mary Mc Connell) Matthew baptised (2)6th June 1871 (Sponsors James Mc Connell and Margaret O'Toole It is possible that there are two familes here, but also possible that the first Matthew didn't survive infancy. The two girls Elizabeth and Mary used to visit Magherydougherty and Betty as she was known was married to Mullan or Mullen from Co. Down and could have lived in Belfast. There is no doubt that she was a sister of Matthew and Simon, so it is possible that James O'Hanlon married twice, and both time to Mc Clynchey. Simon went to USA while Matthew (2nd) not married had no issue and passed on in 1949. He was my mother's Godfather and a 2nd cousin of her father Felix O'Hanlon. I have been trying unsuccessfully to track Simon. He returned to Magherydougherty and had a dispute with his brother Matthew and left apparently to return to USA. Recently I have established from the New York City Census 1890 record, that there was a Simon O'Hanlon (born about 1864) in NY whose residence is not given. NY petitions for naturalization record (1920) shows a Simon Hanlon whose origin is given as England. It is possible that Simon went to England after leaving home for a second time. I have b! een unable to find any death or marriage records for him in my limited search of USA records. In recent times a granddaughter of the late Matt Mc Clinchey Magherydoughtery married John O'Hanlon Mullaghbrack. They live in England. The area where the Late Matt lived is shown on maps as Mc Clynchy's Corner and his family still live there. Matthew O'Hanlon, in his will, left his possessions (farm) to the RC Church who still are in possession of it. The Mc Connells who were related to this family appeared to have no sons. Their daughters married Morgan, Duffy and Mc Cartan and Hughes. The Morgans emigrated to USA: The O'Tooles have died out in the area. I got the information about Mc Clynchys/O'Hanlons from elderly residents from the area. I am giving a lecture in Scarva this coming week on Redmond O'Hanlon (1640 -?) who lived at Magherydougherty. His ggrandmother was O'Dougherty from Inis Owen (Donegal) and it is likely from this source that the area got its name. I hope this helps. Gerry.
