    3. Mary, Re your Message Board postings of McCLAIN and COOPER: where you state . . . . --------------------- <<<I am related to the Cooper line this way. Hugh-Capt Robert Cooper-Col Robert Cooper-Mary Melvina Cooper Kilpatrick Williams-Amelia Velina Elizabeth Kilpatrick McClain. John Turley McClain-Robert McClain. I was born and raised in Maury Co., Tn. I am also related to the Coopers on my maternal grandmother's side. Like this. Teresa Patton Cooper Hunt-Fountain D. Hunt-Nancy Elizabeth Hunt Kennedy-Allie Mai Kennedy McClain-Robert M. McClain-me. 6 pages are missing out of my Cooper Book so I can not at this time tell you for sure who Teresa Patton Cooper Hunts' parents were but I believe they were Hugh Cooper the son of Hugh Cooper of Fishing Creek South Carolina.. . .. etc. . . . . . . have pictures of most of the graves at McClain Cemetry where Robert M. Cooper and wife are buried. Mary Bob McClain Richardson>>> ---------------- Mary, We've corresponded in the past, but I want to talk to you some more . . . . Let me begin with what I know: Charles McLAIN, b about 1804 to UNKNOWN parents, North Carolina or possibly Illinois Married Perlina UNKNOWN, b 1811, TN **Lived in TN from at least 1830 to 1842 having most of their children: Charles with wife Perlina in Arkansas by 1850 census--Lawrence Co. Christianna / Christeny, etc., b 1830/32,TN David, b 1834, TN John Henry, b 1837, TN Esquire "Squire", b 1842,TN and William California, b 1853, Arkansas Matthew COOPER and wife Elizabeth (have more info on this line, but will begin here) had a son: Benson G. COOPER, b 1813, Spartenburg, South Carolina married Delphia LINDSEY/ LINDSAY, b 1812 SC (or perhaps GA) **Lived in Spartenburg, South Carolina, until at least 1845, having most of their children: They were in Arkansas by 1850 census--St. Francis, Co. ARK Cordelia, b 1833, SC Julia E., b 1836, SC Dillard L., b 1838, SC John W., b 1843, SC Emelita, b 1846, Arkansas Benson H., b 1850, Arkansas I know that my Michael ANDREWS / Parthenia PULLEN / PULLIN line were in Georgia until at least 1855-56 and were Arkansas by 1856-57---(re children born) and on 1860 Census, Mornoe County, ARK. I know that in 1876, my great-great grandmother Parthenia ANDREWS,(daughter of above Michael) married Geo. HOUSE, in GA 1851, married E. HOLEMAN in ARK, year? after 1860, who died 1873 (bible record), married Dillard L. COOPER, 1876. And that a daughter by COOPER (Clara, b 1878, ARK) married William David McLAIN, b 1859, Lawrence Co., ARK--of the above McLAIN family---a son of John Henry, b 1837, TN. Little clues from other researchers point to my McLAINS as having come from NC to ARK via KY,IL and west TN-- I have a feeling that there was a loose family alliance of my McLAIN family with the COOPER family---and also some of the ANDREWS / ANDERS---that at some point their paths crossed--just can't prove it. Might have just been a relationship that grew out of the Civil War. I know that my McLAINs lived in Tennessee- (Maybe Henry / Weakley County--and Maury isn't that far away)--from at least circa 1830, maybe earlier, until at least 1842-43. I don't know what happend to Charles and Perlina McLAIN 1842 to 1853, but they were in Ark. in 1853 for the birth of their son, Wm. California McLAIN. (Maybe they or just Charles went to California for awhile ? --re son Wm. "California" and came back in 1853? or maybe they were in ARK all that time). I know that about the same time--(in SC 1843, in ARK 1846), some of my COOPER clan from South Carolina settled a few counties south in St. Francis Co. / Monroe Co., ARK and as time went by, all these folks spread out to surrounding ARK. counties and/or moved on west. I have not yet seen a Hugh COOPER that you mention in this line---but I'm going to go back and take a look--see if one appears in any side line. My COOPERs likely lived elsewhere before they settled in South Carolina--tho I don't have any info yet---but Virginia is a possibility . . . I would need to talk to other COOPER researchers who put together the info on my line. **The only daughter born to the union of Dillard L. COOPER and wife Parthenia ANDREWS/ANDERS HOUSE HOLMAN was my great grandmother Clara, b 1878, Brinkley, Monroe, ARK. After Dillard died in 1884, Parthenia and her daughter Clara helped care for the children of a William David McLAIN, from Lawrence County, ARK. married to a Cordelia MOSIER who died in 1897. In 1898, Clara COOPER married this William David McLAIN of Lawrence County--my great grandfather. I have to ask myself if Parthenia's family had any relationship with the McLAINs----in those days people didn't often marry total strangers. Of course, the Civil War could have created friendships as people fought together. Please let me hear from you---if you think your COOPER line might trace to any of the same family---Matthew COOPER to Benson G. COOPER Or if you find any trace of a Charles McLAIN and wife Perlina with their children as above, in your area of Tennessee. Thanks . .
