    3. Does anyone know how the Plummers, Bealls and McClains of Prince George's Co or Frederick Co MD in the 1700's may have been interconnected by marriage? What is the basis for the claim by some researchers that Mary Beall was the name of the wife of William McClain, who died in 1794 in Frederick County? Samuel and George Plummer ("Plumer")and John Beall witnessed the 1770 Frederick Co will of James McClane. The will mentioned his widow, Dorcas, and nieces Sarah and Linna Beech. James bequeathed "lands on the south side of...Bennet's Creek" to his brother William, and after William's death to William's son James Joshua McClain. This will, as copied into the will book, is consistent in spelling James' and Dorcas' name in each instance as McClane and William and James Joshua's name as McClain. In 1794 in Frederick Co James Plummer and Edward "Andrew" witnessed the will of William McClain, James' brother. William left no widow. His will, proved 12 Apr 1794, mentions son Joshua and daughters Mary, Polly and Susanna. A land record, presumably for this William McClain (who usually signed with a W), names wife Mary. Joshua McClain married Elizabeth Bennett.
