    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McLAIN, McCLAIN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3kz.2ACIB/1031.2.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Mandi, I found your John Henry and Annie and son Ross, daughter (spelling?) Mearl on the 1920 census! So exciting to get a hit right away! 1920, Jan. 19 South Carolina, Abbeville, Due West, District 12 Family and house # 248 McLAIN, John H. head, male, white, age 42, married McLAIN, Annie, wife, female, white, age 36, married McLAIN, Ross, son, male, white, age 18, single McLAIN, Mearl, daughter, female, white, age 8, single John Henry is a farmer on a general farm. Some of the neighbors are COOLEY, FISHER, DAVIS, RICKETS. John Henry, wife and children were born in South Carolina, and also John and Annie's parents were born in South Carolina. I'll see if I can find them now on the 1910 and 1900 and earlier census as they most surely were in South Carolina---probably not popping on a search because of different name spellings . . . then perhaps I can find them also on the 1930 census. Also, it appears the son was using Ross as a given name. If they have their ages about right, John Henry would have been born + or - about 1878 in SC. Annie would have been born about 1884 (and you say her surname was MURDOCK--so, depending on spellings, maybe I can find her nearby the McLAIN / McCLAIN family) I am hoping that I can track backwards and find John Henry with HIS parents on a South Carolina census, as well as hers perhaps. "Luther" Ross was the oldest at age 18 in 1920, so born about 1902 SC, and Merle / Mearl was the youngest at age 8 in 1920, so born about 1912 SC. Audrey
