I am a descendant of Francis McClain, a son of John and Janett McClain. Francis was born in IRE abt 1790 according to the mortality schedule. My earliest finds is John and family in the 1810 Newberry Co., SC census. I also find him in 1820. Another family researcher states John died in 1820. So, evidentally his death came after the enumerations. 1827 David McClain [spelled as McClane] purchases land in Darke Co., OH. His brother Francis [also spelled as McClane] purchases land next to David's in 1828. 1830 both brothers are listed in Twin Twp., Darke Co. OH. An elderly woman who is most likely their mother Janett is listed in David's household. By 1840, Francis and 2nd wife has moved to MO and is listed in Rives Co. census. Would love to make connections with the McClain lineages and would love to find who Francis 1st wife was. Their daughter, Jennetta is my 4th gr.grandmother. She was born abt 1824 in SC. Francis' 1st wife died evidentally sometime betw. 1830 and 1838, the year that Francis marries his 2nd wife Elizabeth Kincaide. Mahalo! S. Viehweg www.viehweg.org
