She was born 31 Dec 1831 and died Apr 14 1881 in Jefferson County PA. She had two or three sons by her first husband, "unknown" Barton, and married my great grandfather William Cowan in 1863. Her sons were Hughes, John and James Barton. Several children were born to Rebecca and William Cowan, including my grandmother Mary Isabel Cowan McKinley. I would like to find out the first name of Rebecca's Barton husband. Also, any information you have about her sons Hughes, John and James. My grandmother was close to her step-brothers all her life.

Maybe John is John Hughes---or perhaps Joseph is Joseph Hughes? and William is William James ? If I had to guess, based on naming a firstborn son for his father, maybe the husband's name was John or "H"--for Henry or Hughes ? Or if the firstborn was for the husband's father, then the 2nd son mgh have been named William for the father. Ancestry.com search for Barton, Pennsylvania, keyword Jefferson County--came up with a Pennsylvania list and an 1840 census showing . . . . . **William Barton, Jefferson township, Fayette County Fed.
