    1. [McClain] help...20 years of being stuck!
    2. Hello listers! We've been stuck for almost 20 years on our Elijah McCLAIN. He was born about 1845 in Ohio (according to census records). His death certificate states his birthplace though as West Virginia. Parents are unknown. We first find him listed in Braxton County, West Virginia in 1877 with the birth of son Moody McClain (who must have died before 1880 census). wife listed is Elizabeth (Lizzie). They are also found on the 1880 Braxton County, WV census. However, they had another child inbetween the birth of Moody and the census that cannot be found in Braxton County so it's possibly they'd moved away and then back in those three years. They are next found in Athens County, Ohio in 1888 when eldest daughter marries. All their children are born prior 1880 and all are listed as birthplace of WV except the eldest who is born in Ohio. All children get married in Athens County, Ohio area (and one in Hocking County, Ohio; next door to Athens). Elijah is found living with son, James Linzy McClain on the 1920 Athens County Ohio census. No wife is there for Elijah. Elijah dies in the State Hospital at Athens in 1923. Death certificate informant is the probate records (so nothing exact is known). His obituary only says that his wife died "several years before". We do know that the wife, Elizabeth, died in West Virginia because my mother says that her grandfather had to go there when she died. The death timeframe for Elizabeth is 1905-1920. The children of this union are as follows: Esther Ann, b. May 1871 in Ohio; m. Thomas J. Lewellen James Linzy, b. April 1873 in WV; m. Clara Bridge Electa June, b. @1875 in WV; m. (1)Vachel McBride and (2) Elmer Marks Cornelia D., b. @1876-1876 in WV (no other information known) Moody, b. 8/22/1877 in Braxton County WV (no other information known) Charles Curtis, b. 9/21/1879 in WV (my line); m. Amanda Bell Pickett ANY help with this family would be greatly appreciated! We don't know where else to look. Thanks so very much! Julie North
