    1. Annie Ferris/McLean
    2. Jennifer Flegg
    3. Seeking anyone knowing anything about my Annie pls. Annie was born 1867-8, Simcoe Co, to Robert Ferris and Mary McMinn. Robert died in 1867 (Annie was born after his death I think, at least I can't get a better date because I can't find her in later years) Mary (nee mcMinn) Ferris, then married James McClain/McLean in 1869. They were found in 1871 In Innisfil Twp, Simcoe Co, in 1881 and 1901 in Simcoe Co, Tecumseth Twp. In the 1881 census, Annie is listed as McLean, even though she is listed last of the kids. She would be James' step daughter. Annie was lised as 13 in 1881. She vanishes after that. I am seeking Annie (a marriage, or death record or anything) to find out what happened to her. I assume she married and moved on, but I can't find her, either as Ferris or as Mclean (if she took her step father's surname in later years???) James McClain was born 1848 in Ireland. His father was Joseph. Mary McMinn was born 1851 in either Quebec, or Ontario (census info differs) Anyone recognise her? many thanks for any help. Jennifer Flegg Almonte, ON

I am Gertrude McClain Dodson and I come from Captain John McClain (1760-1844) who was born in Pennsylvania. Also, I know where he is buried. In fact, I have been working in that cemetery since 1980, trying to reclaim it from the forest. I saw your query in RootsWeb dated Sept.16, 2000 concerning John McClain of Rabun County, Ga. That is the same as above and my ancestor. This family migrated to Rutherford County, N.C., S.C. and Georgia. I wondered if our families are connected. I will be happy to exchange information. Would love to hear from you. I am in the same McClain family with Simon Banister. Gertrude McClain Dodson gertrudemdodson@aol.com

John was a farmer of some worth. Scott Co is just 1/2 an hour over the River from Louisville, KY. In the 1850 census (and the 1860 census), John was married to Harriett (Harutt?), age 38, also born in Kentucky. They had 8 children, all born in Indiana: Samantha, b abt 1836 Joseph, b abt 1838 Marion (son), b abt 1840 Nancy Jane, b abt 1843 Rebecca, b abt 1845 Mary Ann, b abt 1847 Sarah, not in the 1850 census, of course, but born in 1852 In 1893, Rebecca McClain married into a famous Dutch Reform family from New Amsterdam (New York c 1750); the family later became American Baptists. Her WPA Indiana marriage Index listing shows a typo: "Rebecca McElain", in case any one reading this has gotten tripped up on that one. Thanks for any help. Werty

My gg-grandmaother, Anna Laurie McClain was born in Jeromesville, OH in 1864 to William McClain. If cemetery records at Jeromesville Cemetery are correct, William was born approx 1828 and died in 1908. His 1st wife Sophia, also in Jeromesville Cemetery, was born in 1831 & died in 1867. William then married Elisabeth (1839-1884). We also have a Waite McClain (1888-1974) in the family but have no idea how he fits in. From an old newspaper clipping of a family reunion, it appears that Waite had daughters Portia, Mary & Katherine & they lived in Canton, OH. If you have any information on this line, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you Cindy Hoffman

    1. William A. Booher/Sarah Susan McClain, Sullivan Co., TN/Scott Co., VA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MCCLAIN, BOOHER/BOOKER, FOLKNER, HAWKINS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3kz.2ACIB/1005 Message Board Post: In the 1910 US Federal Census for Sullivan County, TN, Civil District 6, William A. Booher is living with his SECOND wife of three years, Sarah S. Booher, twin sons from his FIRST marriage, Robert C. and John C. (11 years of age) and one-month old son, Roy L. from his marriage to Sarah S. The census indicates William’s current marriage as his second, and Sarah’s marriage to William A. as her first. I located the twins, Sarah S., and Roy in the SSDI and sent for a copy of each of their original applications for a social security number. The SSDI indicates the twins were born on 23 Jun 1899 which coincides with their ages (11 years) in the 1910 census recorded on 23 Apr 1910. Both applied for a social security number on the same day, 3 Dec 1936; however, both list their date of birth as 23 Jun 1901. The form did indicate the date of birth was subject to later verification. Robert Kaneils Booher (middle name probably pronounced with a “C” sound, thus Robert’s middle initial listed as “C” by the 1910 census recorder) and his twin brother, John Cleiton Booher, were born in Lebanon, Russell County, VA to Will Booher and Millie Hawkins. Both were employed by Bristol Knitting Mills, Inc. in Bristol, VA, and both served in the 40th Infantry Army. Their social security numbers are one digit different. I located the marriage record of 21-year old W.A. Booker (Booher), born in Sullivan County, TN, son of Allen and Cynthia Booker (Booher), to 21-year old Millie Hawkins, born in Russell County, VA, daughter of W.R. and Midie Hawkins. William and Millie were married on 22 Aug 1898 by Minister A. Mays. About 1907, William A. Booher married Sarah S. Sarah’s Form SS-5 was not available, but the Social Security Administration provided a copy of her Form OAC-790 which states Sarah Susan Booher, born 1 Jul 1888, was the daughter of Wiley McClain of Scott County, VA, and Mary Folkner. Sarah’s maiden name is spelled McCLAIN and not McLAIN. Roy Lee Booher’s Form SS-5 indicates he was born 3 Mar 1910 in Blountville, TN, to William Andrew Booher and Susann McClain (typist misspelled Susan). Roy applied for his social security number on 24 Nov 1936. He was then employed by ? Lumber Company in Bristol, TN. The company name must have been stamped on the form in red; it is faint and not completely legible. Have any other Booher/McClain researchers come across this same information? Does anyone have information on Sarah Susan McClain? P.S. William A. had an older (by approximately two years) brother named Robert and an uncle (brother to his father, Allen) named John Booher. It is not unusual he would name his twin sons after these two men in his life. Later the Boohers moved to Ohio and can be found there in the 1920 and 1930 census records. William A. and Sarah S. had many more children. Some or all of the family members apparently returned to the east TN area.
