He was in northwest Alabama, Marion County, about 1887 to 1890. He left Marion Co. and went back to Arkansas or Missouri some time between 1888 and early 1890's. This William McClain knew the James Washington (Wash) Cody and the Thomas Franklin (Tom) Cody families of Marion County, Alabama and of northeast Mississippi, Lee County and Itawamba County.

    3. My dad Christian Raymund McClain was born on June of 1889 in Harlem,Springs. His first name is after his grand parent Christian B.Best of German Township Germano,Ohio Harrison County.

    3. John Jacob McClain married Martha Robbins. John McClain married Sarah Maple.Robert McClain married Patience Piles. Robert McClain born in Scotland 1746 moved to Loudoun County VA, then to Point Marion Pa then to Jefferson County Ohio ,Island Creek.

She was b ca 1831 Ohio, d between 1870 (on census) and 1874 (David remarried). m 2nd Rebecca McClain Talbot 29 Oct 1874, Morgan Co OH. She was b ca Oct 1840 Ohio, d 13 Oct 1907. She m 1st William Henry Talbot (1838-1865), had two children Elmer Ellsworth Talbot (1862-1947) and Ross McClain Talbot (1864-1946). I think Elizabeth and Rebecca are sisters and their parents are John Jacob McClain (1806-1862) and Martha Robbins (1811-1842), but I have not been able to document this. I'm mainly interested in Elizabeth, since she's my ancestor. Does anyone have info on this family? Thanks! jp

With the name spelled Axa, Axie and Axy in the census, the name was quite likely Achsah, a not uncommon name for a woman born in the early 1800's. Doing a search for the first name only at the WorldConnect Project, or a search for Achsah, Axy and Axie in the 1880 census transcription at the LDS web site will show how common the name was. It's a name from the Bible: Joshua 15:16,17.

David Wiley was my 2nd Great grandfather. He was married to Exodus McClain 8 Feb 1827 in Guilford Co, NC. The family migrated first to Ware, Jefferson Co, MO and then to Middlebrook, St Francois Co, MO. The 1850 census shows her name to be Axa, 1860 census as Axie, 1870 as Axy. A daughter, Mary Ellen (Wiley) Durner's death certificate gives the true and actual name of her mother as Exodus McClain. A son, F M Wiley, my great grandfather had a child named after his mother, giving the child a name of Axa Wiley, who died in infancy and is buried at Sunlight, Washington Co., MO in the Wiley family plott. In the middle 70's, seeing that in printed versions of the Guilford Co marriages the error of "Ana" McClain rather than the nick name of "Axa", I wrote to the county and requested a copy of the marriage record. The handwritting was such it would have been easy to mistake and record my 2nd Great Grandmother's name as Ana rather than what she was know by as Axa, Axy, Axie, and Exodus McClain. I am looking to establish the parents of David Wiley and Exodus (Axa, Axy, Axie, Ana) McClain. The marriage record in question reads..... Married: 8 Feb 1827 in Guilford Co., NC WILEY, David x Ana McCLAIN 8 Feb 1827 m. 8 FEb 1827 by Rev E. W. CARUTHERS , bondsman Hugh Wiley, witness Jno. G. HANNER. Sincerely Linn L Wiley
