Hal, I have not been able to locate the census records for Kenosha County, Wisconsin. The information I have on this family came from obituraies and other secondary sources (ie. letters from relatives, etc) on this family. Below is the obituary quoted verbatim as it appeared. A note in the margin states that the wifes name was Mary Elizabeth rather than Mary Alice as found in this obit. Unfortunately, the person who cut this out of the newspaper, did not cut out the date or which paper it appeared in. "William McCauley was born at Kenosha, Wisconsin, October 7, 1855, and departed this life November 21, 1934 at the home of his daughter, Mrs Laura Ward in Chicago Heights, Illinois; age 79 years, 1 month and 14 days. "He was married to Mary Alice Cape at Three Oaks, Michigan, December 11, 1875. They resided in Chicago in their early married life. Mr. McCauley being a street car conductor in horse cart days. "They moved to Kansas in 1881, later immigrating to Medicine Lodge, returning to Holton in 1884, which has since been his home. "He was a mason contractor by trade and many buildings of Holton and vicinity are his monuments. "To this union were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. His wife and companion of almost fifty years and eldest son preceded him in death. "Children surviving him are; Mrs. Anna Heath, Vermillion, Kansas; Mrs. Margaret Cole, Mrs. Mayme Goodman, Mrs. Laura Ward, and Walter W. of Chicago Heights, Illinois; Mort of Holton, Kansas; and James A. of Mayetta. Also thirty grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, John and Thomas McCauley of Crandon, Wisconsin. "Funeral services were conducted at the Gabel and Porterfield Funeral Home in Holton Saturday afternoon by his old friend, M.G. Hamm. "He rests by the side of his companion in Holton's Silent City. "He was a builder and his works do abide as monuments."
