Son of Joseph S. McCauley - born 1847 and Nancy Jane Bennett - born 1852 in Georgia. Nancy Jane Bennett appears on 1860 Heard Co., GA Federal Census has a child of John F. Bennett, born about 1830, and Martha ? - born about 1830. Other Bennett children appearing on 1860 Census are Justian E. - born about 1854, Thomas born about 1856 and Anna born about 1858. Nancy Jane Bennett and Joseph S. McCauley are believed to have had 13 children and some of their names may have been - Carl, Emma, Esther (Easter), Fred(ric), George Washington, Hugh, Pearl, Thomas Jefferson, Vashti, and John William (Will) McCauley. According to family history he left home as a young man and never returned. Lost contact with family around 1900. It is believed his family may have moved to Texas - but that is not certain. Joseph S. McCauley who was born in 1847 was believed to have been born in Mississippi. He had at least 3 brothers - James, John and one unknown. John William McCauley was believed to have lived for a time around the Rock Mills area in Alabama (across the stateline from Georgia).
