My William had two older brothers, Sanford H. and James McCauley. His brother James had a son he named after his brother Sanford. There's a b. rec. of Sanford H. H. McCauley in Hart MI for around the late 1870's I believe for a few years, anyway. I think James moved his family to Minnesota as I found the names in the Land Homestead info for the late 1800's. Sanford also had land there. I believe Sanford died around 1871 and his wife remarried a few years later. I have not been able to locate positive proof of his death, though. The Land homestead Act info shows she is listed as his widow 1880. I don't understand why it is written as Mary McCauley though, because I believe she was remarried in the mid 1870's. This is a tough family to search.
