First off, I'm Arlene. If you write to the R.L. Polk Company, they make city directories, and ask for the McCauleys at the address on Avery, they can tell you who lived there. Not just the parents, but the children. It might give you occupation of the father. It'll give you a base to start. The address is: R.L. Polk Company 26933 Northwestern Highway Southfield, Michigan 48034 Another idea is to contact the Archdiocese in Detroit and ask where the records for St. Dominic's are stored. I'd bet they didn't just toss them. They're someplace. The may give you all kinds of information about the family. (Christenings, marriages, deaths.) Write to the cemetery and ask for the LOT cards of the McCauley family graves. They usually have a lot of information. The tombstone information is okay, but the lot cards are what you want. Take both if offered. If you don't know where they are buried, you can contact the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press and ask for the death notices. Give as accurate a date as you can. They name the cemeteries where the deceased is buried. Write to the undertaker if you know who he is, (the newspapers will help you there, too,) and ask if he'll send you what he has. They are very helpful. I think they like dealing with live people for a change. He might be able to help you locate where they are buried. Are there any McCauleys still living here to your knowledge? If so, send me their given names and I'll look to see if they're in the phone book. I don't have a Detroit phone book since I don't live there any more, but I'll do the best I can in the suburban books. This should keep you out of mischief for a while. Scatter letters everywhere. Some you'll never hear from, but some you do. I'll ask my daughter if she has any ideas. She's done considerable research in Detroit, with great success......eventually. Keep in touch. I'll be interested in hearing how you get along. As ideas come to Mary or me, I'll send them along. Some may be real stinkers, but you might get lucky. Good luck, Arlene
