Dear Cousins and Friends, Every year at this time, I say to myself that I can not believe that the holidays are coming so soon. And this year was no different. I thought of rewriting this holiday greeting since it was from last year then I remembered that a lady sent an e-mail last year after reading this same message and told me how it touched her life and changed her mind about a personal problem. So maybe this year another miracle will happen for this is the season... I feel so blessed this year that I have the honor of calling you my special cousin and friend. God has brought our kindred spirits together united for the grand entrance of a new beginning in time and may we savor the moments of these days that will fall into the history of the past as Life moves on ... As we are approaching a new moon for Christmas and bright stars sparkles- you can almost reach up and touch them- the luminous glow should remind us of the bright shining star that appeared over a manger long ago... So to our family and friends, near or far - let us not forget the reasons of that Star... May our holiday spirit reflect the beauty and grace of generations that have gone before. Let us continue to keep the fires of patriotism burning which is essential for our continuance as a nation. And whisper a prayer for our military men and women to keep them safe while they are keeping us free. And whatever your holidays may be, may they be filled with good people, good friends, good cheer and cherished moments. Take time to create new memories, reflect on the past ones - may there be Peace on Earth to all. Patsy in California

Posted on: MCCAULEY Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/surnames/m/c/MCCAULEY/queries/7 Surname: McAuley, McCauley, McColly, McColley, VanValkenburg ------------------------- Looking for further information on Melinda McAuley who married John W. Van Valkenburg. They had a son John McAuley VanValkenburg, born 26 Aug 1829, bap. 30 Sept 1829, Kinderhook, Columbia Co., NY. Have information on the Van Valkenburg line, lacking information on Melinda Mc Auley. Melinda and John W. went west to Wood Co., OH about 1850. There is a Peter MCCOLLY buried 1854, who died of Cholera, in Perrysburg Township, Wood Co., OH. "Commemorative Historical and Biographical Record or Wood County, Ohio; its past and present, illustrated.", J. H. Beers & Co., Chicago, 1897. Pages 356 - 414. Has a person by the name of J. L. Mc Colley listed as a Washington Twp. Trustee for 1870, p 407. Early Schools - it states the "Washington" school house, near John McColly's, completed in 1842, was the first frame school house in the township, it goes on to say that the cemetery has spread over the school site, page 409. On page 412 under Municipal Elections, there is a C. W. Mc Colley elected in 1894, as councilman for the long term. Churches, page 413, gives a C. W. Mc Colley as served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Tontogany, incorporated in 1867, organized September 4, 1861. Tontogany Lodge, No. 755, I. O. O. F., given on page 414, was chartered May 20, 1887, and instituted August 4, 1887, with the following charter members: J. W. Van Valkenburg, C. W. Mc Colley, among others. The roll of past grands lists C. W. Mc Colley, 1889; and as secretary in 1890 for it's sixty-six members. Continuing on page 414 under Walter Wood Post, No. 48, G. A. R., being formerly organized March 23, 1881, lists I. B. Van Valkenburg, J. L. Mc Colley, B. F. Davis, as members; with I. B. Van Valkenburg as past adjutant in 1892; it had sixteen members in good standing of the forty-four ex-soldiers residing in the township. The citation above is given to support a theory that Melinda Mc Auley's name could have been spelled Mc Colley or Mc Colly and that perhaps this is a brother or father listed as J. L. Mc Colley, John Mc Colly, C. W. Mc Colley, as of Dec. 2000, no birth of Melinda Mc Auley has been found. She is found in Baptism records of the Kinderhook DRC for the baptism of her children as Melinda Mc Auley and Mc Cauley. DRC, Kinderhook, Columbia Co., NY, Baptism records for sons John Mc Auley Van Valkenburg #6355 and William Schyler Van Valkenburg #6430 have Melinda's maiden name spelled two different ways: Mc Auley and Mc Cauley. Born two years apart, 1829 & 1831, respectively. Thanks, Sue Downhill, sudown@cwnet.com

I do not think George married a Parthenia "Newcomb". I got into that Genfile and they said that Parthenia Newcomb married her second cousin., but it had not been changed on the web.Parthenia's age in the Newcomb file does not correspond to our Parthenia. So far we can not find who Parthenia is. But I do know that George and Parthenia//? had three more children than you listed Jack. There are other deeds that show there were Reuben who m. Eliza//?. Rebecca who married John Simpson and Elizabeth who m. Robert A. Carlyle. In these other deeds it shows they sued for their nineth share of their father's land, etc. Alfred m. Elizabeth Edwards of near Capon Bridge, WV and went to Ohio. Jehosephat m. Erma Townsend in Cass Co. Indiana and is buried in a cemetery at the edge of Galveston, which land he owned and sold to the man who platted the town of Galveston, IN. and Erma platted a section after Jehosephat's death. There are two children of theirs also buried in the same cemetery. Helen & Everett in Indiana.
