I am a descendant of Darby McCarty. My husband is a descendant of some Severns that are associated with Bucks County Severns. So I have been looking at the Bucks Co., recorded abstracts for a long time and copying and keeping any references that I found to use maybe in future. I recently found an association with the Severns of Bucks county and the McCartys of Bucks county. I also have some Severns in Nelson, Jefferson and Hardin Co. Ky that seem to be out of the Bucks Co area. Also some of Darbys children are in the area. Now I find that some of the other McCartys are also in the area. How do they all fit together? Is it parallel migration or were they migrating as an extended family? Let us deal with the association with the Severns family first. Cornelius McCarty, husbandman, of Middletown, Bucks Co., PA was married to a woman named Tudey Cruse. His will is dated March 13, 1726 and was Proved Dec. 7, 1731. He named wife Tudey and brother-in-law Nicholas Cruse executors. All estate for bringing up my child or children ((my note Children not named.)) Wit: Derrick Cruse, Ann Eamonson and Jeremiah Croasdael ((My note: Middletown later became Neshiminey) The Cruses may have been from Staten Island NY. Tudey Cruse McCarty apparently married a man named John Evans, of Northampton. His will dated Oct. 4, 1737 and proved Nov. 12, 1737. Names wife Judith - Son-in-law ((Phrase I have learned likely means step-son in this time frame)) Cornelius McCarty, Son John and child unborn, right in place on which I live by lease from Isaac Pennington, brother Thomas and his children. ((Is this Thomas an Evans or a Pennington? Unclear.)) Jeremiah Croasdale of Middletown executor Wit: Lawrence McSorley, James Ellit and Joseph Widman Then on November 9, 1738 she married a man named Harman VanSandt. Harman was the father-in-law of Daniel Severns who married Catherine VanSandt. Some Severns researchers consider this man to be my husband's ancestor. Now here are some things that I have copied out of various sources over the years. Note the frequency of the Name Nicholas Cruse or Crusen who was brother of Judith Cruse McCarty Evans Vansandt Bucks county McCarty references that may apply James and Dinah Carrell of Northhampton owed money for 100 acres in Northhampton Twp on 27 April, 1748. This property was on the line of Abraham Bennett, Nicholas Crusen and Thomas Dungan. This property was purchased in 1734 from Samuel and Elizabeth Gilbert, Silas and Sarah McCarty and Robert and Lydia Tomkin. These 3 women, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sarah McCarty and Lydia Tomkin are supposed to be the daughters of James Carrell of Northhampton, of Bucks Co Pennsylvania. One of the Witnesses was Bernard Carrell. >From Bucks co Deed records. Vol 7, page487 P 513 Feb 1744 (a list of several names and towns one of whom is James Carrell, yeoman, of Northampton, all of Bucks Co., Pennsylvania and all members of the Presbyterian Church, of Warwick, minister Charles Bealy), to create church and graveyard. Silas McCarty in Bucks County on March 23, 1726/27 as he was witness to a will of Rachel Pidcock of Richland of the county of Philadelphia. Could these Richardsons be the family of Hannah Richardson who married Darby McCarty? A Francis Richardson died in NY between 5 mo (July 7, 1688 and July 16, 1688) He was a merchant. He was to be buried in the Friends Burying Ground at Flushing. Richardson lived on property adjoining land that Jonathan Woolston of Middletown bought of Christian Vanhorn Sept and Oct 1741. Thomas Dungan came to Bucks County from Rhode Island in 1684. He settled at a place named Cold Springs, which was between Bristol and Trenton. He died in 1688. He had 5 sons and 4 daus. He was a Baptist minister and founded a Baptist church in Buck County. Silas McCarty lived in the SW part of the twp, near the Buckingham line in 1724. Early settlers in Haycock Twp included: Thomas and Patrick McCarty. Silas McCarty signed a petition to make Haycock a twp in 1740. I hope these things help you all. I have also just this evening discovered that the Rev. Thomas Dungan of RI and then Bucks Co is a great-grandson of the very controversial nonconformist minister Rev. Bachilder through his dau. Deborah Wing of Massachusetts.
