My, goodness, there's suddenly a lot of activity on the McCarty list of late. Thought this would be a good time to post again my rogue McCarty. EMELY (poss. MOLLY) McCARTY. -born in 1844 if info from her obit is correct. -came to America sometime before 1860. -was married to a JASPER KRUPP (CRUMB). -gave birth to their only child, MARY HELENE CRUMB in 1860, prob. in Morgan City, Louisiana, at the age of 16. -was married twice more (2nd husband JAMES GEIBLE, 3rd husband, A.W. BOWEN). -died May 26, 1878, in Morgan City, Louisiana, giving birth to a child who must have also died. Had two other children after Mary Helene - MATHILDA GEIBLE and WILLIAM ALFORD GEIBLE. -according to family lore, lost her parents and any other accompanying family members during the voyage to America, either due to illness or shipwreck, as did her first husband Jasper Krupp, who was travelling on the same ship. -additional family lore says that she and Jasper were raised together on some unidentified plantation, after being orphaned. Considering the many clues I have about Emely, I have never been able to find any concrete evidence on her other than her obituary and the listing of her name and Jasper's on Mary Helene's baptismal certificate. I can't even find out where she was buried. If any of this sounds familiar to any of you who might be able to verify any of my clues as fact or supply any hard data, I would weep tears of pure joy. Emely has been my treasure and my albatross for the ten years or so that I've been trying to track her down. Keeping my fingers crossed!
