While the McCarty list is so active, I'm adding my brick wall. . . I'd like to hear from McCartys who have ancestors in Michigan (especially the Detroit area). My George McCarty, according to family legend, was born in 1825 in Detroit MI. He was orphaned at three months, and brought to Erie MI by an Uncle, Dominic Raoult (Rowe), and raised there. While I know much about him after that time, I have not been able to determine exactly who his father was - said to also have been a George. Family legend also relates that George had an older brother, who was raised by someone else, somewhere other than Erie MI . George hoped to find his brother all of his adult life, but never was able to do that. I do not know what the brother's name was, but I am hopeful that someone may have an ancestor born in Michigan, who was orphaned at a young age that may be that brother. George's mother was French Canadian. Her father may have been John Baptiste Raoult II, originally of Sandwich, Ontario, Canada. George's son, Robert, my great grandfather, used to tell my Dad that he was "part American Indian." To add to the mix, I have come across a white Indian Chief of the Ottawa tribe named McCarty, but have been unable to determine if that might support the story. Any remote links appreciated.
