I was told by my grandfather, M.E. McCARTY that his people had left NC and came to Arkansas after a family dispute and "Never looked back" By 1860 Craighead Co. Arkansas census three MCCARTY families, Jacob 63 b NC, James 27 b OH and Michael 33 b NC. Michael was my gg grandfather. Michael and Malinda McCarty's first four children were born in NC (Nancy M. 16, Elizabeth C. 14, Minerva 13 & Levi 11) the next three children were born in AL (Michael C.b AL 1853, James F b AL1854 & Infant Malinda b AL1858). In 1860 in Jacob and wife Nancy McCarty household were Jacob Overcast 15 b NC, JA Doreral 4 NC, and William Wear 14 b SC. Do not know relationships of these people to McCarty family. Do not know where in Al Michael and wife Melinda E lived . I have not proven relationships of the three McCarty families, but it seem likely that Jacob was the father of Michael and James. In 1870 census James McCarty is not found but his wife is living with Jacob McCarty. By 1880 Jacob is not listed in Census.
