Jean, It will probably not be a lot of help to you, but the fact that your McCarty line comes out of NC is of interest to me and others looking for the origins of Abner McCarty who is found in Scott county VA in 1850 census records. This Abner is the father of Jeremiah McCarty who settled in Floyd County, KY, ca 1844 and married Malinda Kilgore who is the daughter of John Kilgore of Scott County, VA. All of Abner's Children and his wife, Lora (Dunn?) are from VA, The known children's names are Jeremiah B1819, James B1830, Tobiatha b1826 and Polly (probably Mary B1934) There are probably others but I have not discovered who they are or how many. Abner would have been born in NC in 1798, according tp the census info for 18560 Scott county VA this family is also listed on the 1840 census but I have nothing but the Index for that year and as yet have not seen the actual record. Page number is 295 which is also one of the pages containing Addingtons and Kilgores who are Jeremiah McCarty's Wife Malinda's parent.s families. If youy have any further information on the McCarty's origins for your family in NC I would be grateful for a county of Origin and other names of family members who might connect to my Abner's roots.
