    3. I don't know exactly what I sent you a minute ago, but this is what I sent Carol. Dennis McCarty, Jr. and his first wife, Nancy, had a son named Andrew Jackson McCarty b about 1815. But I have a Susan P Dabney listed as his wife. Married at the home of John Kirksey, by Wm. H. Atkinson, Esq. Edgefield Advertiser. I figure that he was about 34 so this could very well have been a 2nd marriage. 2. Carol, My name is Paul McCarty. Seeing the name William Dennis leads me to believe we are related. Who was Andrew Jackson McCarty's father? The part of Edgefield county that our ancestors lived in is now Saluda County. Saluda County was formed in 1895, with Saluda as the county seat. Butler Church has a lot of McCartys buried there. My grandfather, Samuel Preston McCarty, g grandfather Dennis Preston McCarty and gg grandfather Reuben William McCarty are all buried there. Probably my ggg grandfather too. Paul

    3. I don't have anything more than what I posted. I do suspect that this Jeremiah could also be Billington McCarty of Estill County. Perhaps if someone has access to records there they could check. It seems I found Billington McCarty "exempt from taxes due to age and infirmities" and yet when I checked the tax list a "James or JAMER" McCarty was the only one "exempt" from taxes. I made a note that it looked more like "Jamer" than James. "H. S. Patton" wrote: > > JoAnne > How much do you have on this Jeremiah and son Jeremiah. 3. JoAnne How much do you have on this Jeremiah and son Jeremiah. Do you have any of the siblings of these two or any forebearers? Similarities in names to the Magoffin families and the Falls of the Ohio (Louisville) families are interesting.? Any Abners? I can relate Scott county VA abner to My jeremiah, but by the name patterens although he seems to fit as John McCarty Margaret Smith's oldest Jeremiah's name is a blank. I would love to connect this whole group as I feel they are related to the Darby Hanah line as well. Jeremiah is the mystery because I can't find the origin of his name unless it came from Lora, his mother's family but because oif the oirder of his birth, Brother James is younger, It seems unlikely. Also there is a North Carolina connection that could relate to John McCarty's older brother's wife or Margaret Smith (Dau of Adam Smith who might be the pastor that married James Patton which seems to be related somehow due in part to his daughter Elizabeth living right next door to Jeremiah and Melinda in Magoffin County. Oh boy I'd need a book to explain it all but I feel that all of these families are interonnected long before they reach Kentucky, just how is the mystery but the names of children in each group and the commonality of geography for given periods can not be ignored. 3. Now this is an interesting piece of info. This is the earliest Malinda McCarty I have heard of in the families in kentucky. I have no info on her but the name and place interest me greatly for the date. The earliest Malinda (note the more common spelling for this name is Melinda) I knew of before now is Malinda Kilgore who married Jeremiah McCarty. Her actual birth date is probably 1824, but some puyt it at 1821 because of the eroneous date on her tomb stone. Note that Jeremiah's death date is incorrectly shown as 1865 and because he appears on the 1870 Magoffin County KY census that is an impossibility. The correct date appears to be somewhere between 1871 and 1877. His father Abner McCarty is possibly the eldest son of John McCarty, son of Nicholas McCarty. This is the first McCarty family Known to have entered Ky at the fallso of the Ohio in the Company of Richard Chenoweth and Smiths of Joppa County MD by way of what is now WVa and western Pa, along the Monongahelia/ Ohio Route. The Abner McCarty above mentioned as the father of Jeremiah is one of two Abners known in this generation, as Thomas, the older son of Nicholas (or maybe even his Brother) has a son of the same name some 20 years older than our Abner who is according to the only occumentary evidence, the Scott County, VA 1850 census. There is another known Abner who passes through this area circa the same era who is the grand son of Darby and Hanah McCarty another well doccumented family who is possibly related to the Nicholas family although that is based on name simoilarities amnong the children. I know of no malindas in any of the known children of any of these families even among the daughters of sons and grand sons for the several known familie groups, however. The aboive mentioned, Malinda (Kilgore) McCarty marries Jeremiah in 1844 and does not enter KY until sometime afterward but before 1850 when they first appear on the Floyd County KY census. As I am descended fron this Family, through my paternal grandmother. IU am definitely interested in what informqtion you have on your Malinda and what sourse or doccumentation you have for it. I will bre happy to exchange any info I have on the others I have in this family.
