Posted on: McCarty & McCarthy Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/McCarty?read=174 Surname: McCardy, Holloway, Fillhour ------------------------- My husband's g-grandmother was Sarilda (Syrilda) McCarty Holloway. According to a news story printed June 6, 1930 in the Noblesville Daily Ledger in Indiana, she was the oldest of 11 children of Effie Fillhour and Lewis McCarty. She was born in Clermont Co. Ohio and when she was 15 the family moved to Walnut Grove, Ind. This is either Hamilton Co. or Madison Co. Indiana. She married Elisha Holloway in 1860. She was 92 years old when this interview took place and it is stated that she had a living brother named Peter near Lapel Ind. and a sister Elizabeth Webb of Anderson Ind. When she died 3/27/1931, the funeral was handled by the McCarty Funeral Home in Lapel, Indiana (Relation?) Is anyone familiar with this family. I have been unable to find any of these McCartys online.

    3. Jim This is interesting to me because my father and my middle name is Clark. I have not been able to find any ancestors that were connected to the Clark line. I noted that it say these are available on microfilm . Maybe you can get them on interlibrary loan. jmccarty wrote: > HELP HELP > Does anyone have any infromation of the copy below? 1. Re: [McCARTY-L] Bucks County, Pa McCartys and their associations
    2. H. S. Patton
    3. Janice, Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information. This may be the most important single posting I have seen on the connection between the various early families surrounding the McCartys of Bucks County and the various branches that end up in KY, IN, IL and in Virginia. I have long suspectd that these families are all closely linked. That is to say that all of that family who spell their name as McCarty, (and perhaps the Cartys as well) I also have nodoubt that a connection like this linking this group and the one who are found along the route that this family takes down through VA and on to the west are critical. I note two very important link given names here to one side and names which are missing from my line. First is the Jeremiah and the second is the Harman (herman. This latter one could have ended up in my line fron several aspects but this one is most interenting. The fant that Harman's station is so near to my McCarty line (children of Floyd County KY Jeremiah) and that there is a possible connection to that family, or from Anne Harmon McCarty's family name, or through a Connection to the Harmon (Herman) mentioned in your posting. The Other name I am looking for a sourse for is Abner. I note that this given name appars in Darby's family as well as in Nicholas of Jefferson County, KY's line all born within a twenty year period from 1780-1799 and all iun the exact same generational distance from the root family That is that the two are grand sons. Curiously there are two others. One is Jeremiah McCarty's father, b. 1798, according to the cesus of Scott county, VA, in NC. Exactly which of the families he is decended from I can not determine but that he is clearly related is evident in the choice of given names which show up among his children and grandchildren. That one of Nicholas McCarty's great grand children, John Wiley, son of Abner son of Richard (thought to be son of Nicholas? whether this is this same Nicholas withwhom he if found in Jefferson County KY or another of The Nicholas's who end up staying in PA is uncertain. The same may be true of Thomas McCarty who shows up there with him) I am also looking at close ties to two other families from Baltimore and Harford County, MD. The Smiths (Calverts also Smith who is the third lord Calvert.) and the Chenoweth's, So now I ad d the Severns as another early Jefferson, Nelson County Family and this all seems to be moving in very interesting dirrections. Nodoubt it will take some time for all this to sort itself out. Possibly someone else out there is sitting on another important piece of linkage without realizing it. One currious thing about my line is that Nicholas McCarty's (Jefferson County KY) son, John McCarty wf Margaret Smith (dau of Adam Smith)has a son named Abner who is supposedly born in 1799 who seems to disapear after the mention as John's son. As you may or may not know, Darby's son Benjamin also has a son Abner born that same year. This one shows up later in Indiana Politics, but apparently is connested with Jefferson County and Louisville KY at some point along the way. It is possible however that John's son was born in 1798 as the birth date given for son Abner is based on conjecture from the date of John's marriage to Margaret Smith. It was not uncommon, even in those days for awoman to be pregna=nt when married. The fact that Abner was born in NC might be interesting. John is curriously absent from the tax rolls for Nelson County that year but appears on the prior years and the following years. Could it be that they took an extended honeymoon away from the region while she gave birth to Abner, in order to save face with her family. After her father was a minister and apparently the McCarty family is early involved in the Episcipal, the Baptist Church and later with the Methodist Church. Did she then wait a reasonable time before returning to the Jefferson County KY region? Was Abner then perhaps left behind with family in Frederick County, VA where he grew up and married wife Lora? (I do not know her family as yet, but family lore connects both Jeremiah's birth place with Frederick County and his parents as well. So far I have found no mention of them in any doccumentation or any of the Census records prior to 1850, when they turn up in Scott County.) Steve Patton ----- Original Message ----- From: Janice Severns <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, April 25, 2000 11:47 PM Subject: [McCARTY-L] Bucks County, Pa McCartys and their associations I am a descendant of Darby McCarty. My husband is a descendant of some Severns that are associated with Bucks County Severns. So I have been looking at the Bucks Co., recorded abstracts for a long time and copying and keeping any references that I found to use maybe in future. I recently found an association with the Severns of Bucks county and the McCartys of Bucks county. I also have some Severns in Nelson, Jefferson and Hardin Co. Ky that seem to be out of the Bucks Co area. Also some of Darbys children are in the area. Now I find that some of the other McCartys are also in the area. How do they all fit together? Is it parallel migration or were they migrating as an extended family? Let us deal with the association with the Severns family first. Cornelius McCarty, husbandman, of Middletown, Bucks Co., PA was married to a woman named Tudey Cruse. His will is dated March 13, 1726 and was Proved Dec. 7, 1731. He named wife Tudey and brother-in-law Nicholas Cruse executors. All estate for bringing up my child or children ((my note Children not named.)) Tudey Cruse McCarty apparently married a man named John Evans, of Northampton. His will dated Oct. 4, 1737 and proved Nov. 12, 1737. Names wife Judith - Son-in-law ((Phrase I have learned likely means step-son in this time frame)) Cornelius McCarty, Son John and child unborn, right in place on which I live by lease from Isaac Pennington, brother Thomas and his children. ((Is this Thomas an Evans or a Pennington? Unclear.)) Jeremiah Croasdale of Middletown executor Wit: Lawrence McSorley, James Ellit and Joseph Widman Then on November 9, 1738 she married a man named Harman VanSandt. Harman was the father-in-law of Daniel Severns who married Catherine VanSandt. Some Severns researchers consider this man to be my husband's ancestor. Now here are some things that I have copied out of various sources over the years. Note the frequency of the Name Nicholas Cruse or Crusen who was brother of Judith Cruse McCarty Evans Vansandt Bucks county McCarty references that may apply James and Dinah Carrell of Northhampton owed money for 100 acres in Northhampton Twp on 27 April, 1748. Thomas Dungan of RI and then Bucks Co is a great-grandson of the very controversial nonconformist minister Rev. Bachilder through his dau. Deborah Wing of Massachusetts. I have found quite a bit of info about these families on the internet. 3. Thanks for sharing this information. Our McCarty ancestors were in Lancaster County in 1829 and perhaps earlier. I am curious to know if there was a connection between the many McCartys of Bucks County and those in Lancaster County. I would think there might be a connection. Anyone else have any ideas on this? 1. [McCARTY-L] Bucks County, Pa McCartys and their associations
    2. Janice Severns
    3. I am a descendant of Darby McCarty. All estate for bringing up my child or children ((my note Children not named.)) Wit: Derrick Cruse, Ann Eamonson and Jeremiah Croasdael ((My note: Middletown later became Neshiminey) The Cruses may have been from Staten Island NY. Tudey Cruse McCarty apparently married a man named John Evans, of Northampton. This property was on the line of Abraham Bennett, Nicholas Crusen and Thomas Dungan. This property was purchased in 1734 from Samuel and Elizabeth Gilbert, Silas and Sarah McCarty and Robert and Lydia Tomkin. These 3 women, Elizabeth Gilbert, Sarah McCarty and Lydia Tomkin are supposed to be the daughters of James Carrell of Northhampton, of Bucks Co Pennsylvania. One of the Witnesses was Bernard Carrell. >From Bucks co Deed records. Vol 7, page487 P 513 Feb 1744 (a list of several names and towns one of whom is James Carrell, yeoman, of Northampton, all of Bucks Co., Pennsylvania and all members of the Presbyterian Church, of Warwick, minister Charles Bealy), to create church and graveyard. Signed by several more names and Recorded 1748 >From Volume 9, p 359 19 August, 1732 James and Dinah Carrell, ( oldest son and heir of James Carrell), of Northhampton Twp., Bucks co., Pennsylvania sold to Gideon DeCamp, of Warminster Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania, 100 acres… in Warminster Twp… on the line of Bartholomew Longstreth, Thomas David and Nicholas Crussen. Signed James Carrell and Dinah (x) Carrell, who recorded 1735. Wit: Benjamin Carrell, Joseph Hart and John Hart >From various will records. Silas McCarty in Bucks County on March 23, 1726/27 as he was witness to a will of Rachel Pidcock of Richland of the county of Philadelphia. Could these Richardsons be the family of Hannah Richardson who married Darby McCarty? A Francis Richardson died in NY between 5 mo (July 7, 1688 and July 16, 1688) He was a merchant. Posted on: McCarty & McCarthy Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/FamilyAssoc/McCarty?read=173 Surname: McCarty ------------------------- I am searching for Ann McCarty born in 1813 in VA. She married Nicholas Halpin in 1829 in Washington County, D.C. (Washington DC). They moved to Brown County Ohio in 1830 and lived in that area until her death between 1861 and 1865. She had a son move to Indiana and three others (William, Nicholas and James) die during the civil war. Does anyone have any info on the parents or siblings of Ann? I'm sure someone has come across some information on this person during their research. I am told that they knew the Washington family. Which Washington family I have no idea. Any info would be helpful. Thanks, Bob

    2. DeWayne, Thanks for the John info re Washington Co. PA. I think we need a strong Washington Co. PA researchers link. The Edgefield SC folks have established a great resource tool which needs to expand to our PA links. So how about it all you Washington Co. PA/Bucks Co. PA McCarty links? Let's get our data shared so we can figure out our PA families! Yes, The Bell anthology is on the internet. I found it through a link on Cyndi's website, PA, Washington Co. listings. It's listed as Bell's Anthology - simple enough. It's basic info re the Brethren Church established at Ten Mile Creek. Gloria

Yes I have. I helps me quite a bit to see seemingly unrelated events form a pattern or provide clues when seen in chronological order. I include historical events (battles, county formations, etc.). Pardon me for it's length but I'm posting here it in case anyone can help fill in some blanks or make connections and corrections. I don't make any claims of proof though. Many entries are of the "I think" type. It's a work in progress. 3. Gloria I have been looking for my link in Wash Co for a long time. John McCarty b 1808 VA, d 1884 Independence Twp., PA. His father Was William (I think). In frustration, I have started to gather any and all McCarty's in Wash, & Green Co's., PA. So far I have listed bit and peices of about 25 John McCartys. Your mention of Mt. Plesant and John reminded me of the following which may be the refenced family you mentioned.: >From Crumbies History, page 850. The John McCarty family that came to Cherry Run Valley in Mt Pleasant Twp., Wash Co in 1773. He had five sons, - Timothy, John, James, Samuel, and Robert, and a daughter Cassia, who married William Elder. John, son of Thimothy , inherited the place. John, the second son of John McCarty (1773), settled on one hundred acres of the home tract also given him by his father. He sold it to John, the son of Timothy, in 1835, and removed to Ohio. Is Bell's anthrology on the internet? -- DeWayne McCarty Visit the Columbiana County Chapter of Ohio Genealogy Society Home Page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohcolumb/index.htm Check out the Historical Research Pages and the Links.
