I will just give the pertinent details; At his residence in Walker township, near this borough, on Sunday morning, 22d ins., after a lingering illness, JOHN McCAHAN, Esq., aged 77 years. He was born in November of 1780 in a small village, called Drumnahaigh, in the north of Ireland, landed in the United States in 1793, bound as an apprentice to Steel & McClain of Carlisle to learn the printing business. He worked as a Jour with M. Duffey, in Huntingdon, 1797. Duffey failed and went to Baltimore, when Mr. McCahan followed him, and worked for William Pechin - he commenced business in Huntingdon, January 1801 with the Huntingdon Gazette, of which paper he was the editor and proprietor - quit printing 9 July, 1828, when he was succeeded by his son J. Kinney McCahan. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
