    1. [McCANN] Information on a MCCANN
    2. Greeting Jane, I came about my MCCANN ancestry quite by accident. The information I had was that my ggrandfather Charles F Andrews was born on Nantucket, MA. I had found out that he his original name was Charles Welcomb. He was living with Almira (FISHER) WELCOMB, ANDREWS and her husband George F ANDREWS on Martha's Vineyard, MA. He took the ANDREWS name when he was about 10. My wife and I traveled to Nantucket to obtain a birth certificate, etc. While there we discovered things we were not expecting. Upon receiving the birth certificate, we found that his father was Benjamin Franklin MCCANN, born on March 6, 1849 in Canton, MA, died on November 28, 1875 at sea. We could not make out the mother's first name (looked like Martha), but her last name was WELCOMB and the baby's name was Charles WELCOMB. He was born December 17, 1872 "out of wedlock." In addition, at the historical society we found a book about the MCCANNs starting with Thomas Nash MCCANN born 1809 in Calais, ME and his wife Margaret Nuns Alley married on June 27, 1841 in Nantucket, MA. Benjamin was his son and therefore my gggrandfather. I will be sending a request for information on my ggggrandfather Thomas Nash MCCANN to the Website looking for confirmation on where Thomas was born and his parents/grandparents. Hope you could follow that. Thank you, Edward Duffett Hudson NH 03051 _eduffett@aol.com_ (mailto:eduffett@aol.com)
