Hi Jane, Thank you so much for that information! That should keep me busy for a while! I can't seem to find a Birmingham, Delaware County, PA. The name of the town must have changed and I have no clue of the new name. Also, is there someplace that I can get a complete list of McCanns who fought in the War of 1812? Thanks again for all of your help! jeff mccann > From: mccann-request@rootsweb.com > Subject: MCCANN Digest, Vol 5, Issue 87 > To: mccann@rootsweb.com > Date: Sun, 12 Sep 2010 01:00:18 -0600 > > > > Reminders: (1) Enter a meaningful SUBJECT such as: "John A. b. 1851 Hamilton, OH." and (2) Unsub if you expect your mailbox to be full for an extended period. > > Today's Topics: > > 1. Thanks again for all of your help! Hi, Jeff, Have found that when a history/geography question like that arises Google is an excellent source of information. Found via Google that Birmingham is a township name in Delaware County: http://history.rays-place.com/pa/birmingham-t-pa.htm I have been told that many of the War of 1812 rosters did not survive. So, I gather that a "complete list" would be impossible to create. The National Archives does have an index at the National Archives on microfilm: "Index to Compiled Service Records of Volunteer Soldiers Who Served During the War of 1812." National Archives, 1965. Call # Microfilm 610. Wonder if that is available now via Footnote. They do have the PA Archive books online. But that costs $$ although they do have a 7 day free trial. The PA Historical and Museum Commission has a War of 1812 Index of Soldiers who served from PA online: http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/rg/di/r2-61War1812Index/r2-61%20WarOf1812Interface.htm However, it appears that there has been no attempt to alphabetize those names other than to list together all those which begin with the same letter. Pages 38-84 list "M" names with "Mc" names sprinkled throughout. Would be a very nice project for someone with good eyesight to extract all the McCan/McCanns for us from that PA Index. Best regards, Jane
