William Martin was born in 1873, Louisiana. He was the son of Elizabeth Gertude Leggett and Algerine McCann. Elizabeth was my gr grandmother Mary Leggett's oldest sister. Both of them had CMT. I know this from posts about Elizabeth's descendents and from the inheritance pattern with CMT type 1X, the type that runs through my Leggett line. Since at least one of my gr grandmother's sons inherited the defective gene, I know that it came from her, not her husband. Men with CMT type 1X have a 50/50 chance of passing it on ONLY to each of their daughters, while women with the disease can pass it on to sons and daughters (also a 50/50 chance with each child.)
