My youngest uncle, Mike has Charcot Marie Tooth Disease and was diagnosed about 3-4 years ago. My father has significant muscle wasting, Huntington's Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis...all of which came from the McCann's side. I have fibromyalgia, psoriasis (autoimmune), auto-immune arthritis (not rheumatoid), ADD and calcific tendonitis (calcium deposits in the Achilles roots and shoulder joints). My father has the same thing, he has had his biceps tear from their insertion points and is now totally disabled. I think there is something to the McCann line and significant medical problems. My grandmother, Juanita died in 1990 at the age of 63 from stomach cancer (started as ovarian) and she had Huntington's Disease as well. Her father, Clarence McCann as well as 7 out of 11 of her blood siblings (whole AND half) died from Huntington's Disease. It seems that neuro-degenerative diseases are popping up in the McCann family tree. ! CMT is a form of Muscular Dystophy and is managed by neurology (I worked as a neuro nurse for over 3 years). Huntington's is a deadly genetic neuro-degenerative disease that causes dementia and a bunch of other problems. ADD/ADHD (both my half siblings from my father's side have ADHD and bipolar and are both incarcerated) is neuro-psych...Lou Gerig's is actually ALS and it is deadly within a year or two of diagnosis. Has your son had a nerve or muscle biopsy done? If not, he probably should as that can also pinpoint what's going on with him. I had genetic testing done in 2009 for Huntington's and I do NOT have the gene, thank God! Despite this, I am having some foot/ankle problems that make me suspect CMT...in fact, I had to leave the nursing profession b/c I cannot stand on my feet for 8 hours...let alone 12 without excruciating pain. I wish there was a way to do some familial genetic testing so we can figure out what this is all about! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
