    1. [McCANN] John McCan
    2. Jim, Jane and all: What bothers me about John McCan being one of the sons of Lawrence McCan is this: Tho he seemed to be perhaps a son, , because of the regular attendance at some of the weddings etc., we cannot be positive! I find that at the time of Mary McCan's death, (wife of lawrence) she doesn't mention John as a son in her will. She died 1819 as did her son Daniel. (Lawrence already had passed away). She only mentions Patrick. It seems to me that perhaps by 1819 that "maybe" John had already died, and I suppose this is a possibility. Or perhaps this John may have been a nephew of Lawrence or a grandson? Or a near relative of some sort. Here too are more John McCans who are not traced further: In Amelia Co Va - Jno. McCan with 7 whites in 1790 In Cumberland Co. Va John McCan with 5 whites in 1790. In Fluvanna Co Va Daniel McCan with 4 whites in 1790. In Giles Co Va John McCann appears 1810 census with the following: (southwest of Monroe Co ) 1 male age 0-10 5 females ages 0-10 1 male age 10-16 (this male could have been born 1794 or later.) 2 females ages 10-16 (9 children unidentified) 1 male 45 or older (no doubt John McCan) No wife listed. So this John would have been born 1765 or earlier No further info however from Giles Co Jim, wish we could find something further to help solve this mystery. All we can do is to keep searching...and hopefully something may turn up. I had been hoping for some time to prove Samuel's (b 1815) relationship to William (b 1792) and found William as being born in Parkersburg, Wood Co Va., then later found him in a clip showing him, with Samuel, Elizabeth and MaryAnn as children, being listed as being home schooled - so sometimes we get that lucky to find a piece that fits.
