Dodie, Thanks. In terms of John of Wilkes, the John of Amelia, John of Cumberland and the John of Giles - in light of those who survived until the 1820 census- had too many children . I will look more carefully at the date of death of John of Wilkes to see how the 1819 date fits in. Thanks for the reply and I invite others to join in. So far I am sure searching , especially in view of your question re John as a son of Lawrence, is in order. Can someone who is a more careful researcher than I provide all the census of 1800 listings for a John McCann? Also 1790? I am unable to secure this from my library at present and am trying to link the 1790 Johns to 1800 Johns and then to see if these same Johns are in the same location in 1810. I wold hope, although not overly confient because of boundry changes, family moves, etc. to try to find out who is unaccounted for and might be the John who is on the 1810 Wilkes county North Carolina census. If possible, please help me again on this. Jim Knoxville, Tn.
