Hi Jane, Thanks for the welcome. I have just joined this list and after years of research I have started on my McCann line - and wonders of wonders I finally have a convict. Andrew McCann b abt 1812 Meath Co. Ireland. was transported to Sydney in 1832 aboard the Captain Cook, after being tried in the Meath Court for assault. He was sentenced to 7 years. He gained his ticket of leave in for the Goulburn Dist in 1836 and his certificate of freedom in1839. Andrew married a Mary PICKEN in 1843 at Yass NSW. They had two children, Andrew McCann b 1846 and Mary McCann b 1848. Andrew married a Bridget Luddy in 1858 but I cannot find a death registration for his first wife Mary. I do know that according to her son's marriage certificate she died whilst he was a young child - possibly in child birth with his sister ? but anything is possible. He also had a brother John McCann who was transported 6 years earlier in 1826 on the Pheonix possibly. Do these names ring any bells with anyone on the McCann list. Any help would be appreciated.
