Laurelen That John McCan (Navy and served on the Bull Dog) was found in the Pa archives, Commander was Capt William Potts. Here are some others on that same list (PA.) I found. It's interesting to note that they were all spelled with one N - Thes are all card files. 1. John McCan - rank Lt. Duty: Rec'd on acct, 20 and 31 July 1778 7.10, and 15. for recruiting service of Hartley's Reg't. Certificate issued: CG. Grand Acct., Acct. civ. Ledger B p.459 Miltia loan of 1 Apr. 1784 and 30 Mar 1785, "Public Debt" Records of the Comptrller General at D.P.R. 2. John McCan - Lieutenancy: Chester - 4th Co. Class 2nd Class Roll for the period 1780 - dated Aug 12, 1780 3. Jams McCan (this is how the name is written, no doubt "Jame's")Pvt. Lieutenancy: Washington Co. 7th Company Class 4th. 1781-1783) 4. Jams (James?) McCan Washington County - 3rd Btn 7th 4th class Commander Capt Timothy Downing Duty "M" c/r n.d. 5. Daniel McCan Washington County - 7th Co Class 5th 3rd Btn 1781-1783 Duty "M" c/r n.d. I think that this James and Daniel were the sons of Lawrence McCan, James was said to have died in the war.
Hi Dodie, Thanks for an additional John or so. I do not know the county makeup of Pa. and can not seem to get it straight. Are Washington county and Chester county close to each other? Did Lawrance have a son John also? Just hoping.
