    1. [McCANN] Re: WV McCann connections to Smith,Samples, and Naylor
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QOz.2ACEB/751.7 Message Board Post: There was a Patrick McCann in Roane County. His surname sometimes appears with only one "n" so search for McCan. I have the following information on this Patrick but have not followed his children: Patrick MCCANN b: December 25, 1822 in Lewis County, WV d: August 07, 1906 in Edison, NB m. May 22, 1851 in Osborn Mills, VA Isabella A GEARY b: July 25, 1835 in Roane Co., WV d: January 23, 1922 in Sterling, KS Father: Mathew GEARY Mother: Elizabeth Almira ASHLEY Supposedly, Patrick McCann is on p. 10 of the GEARY twp. Roane Co. Census in 1870 but I couldn't find him on that page. Perhaps this will help you locate his family before the marriages. I've also noted the following: In a notebook found at Hacker's Creek Library, containing information on "Miscellaneous Families" there is a McCann family tree which begins with Patrick McCann whom it says was the son of Richard McCann and Monica Goff. The author presumes that Richard had brothers named William and James and that his father was the pioneer Patrick McCann. This second Patrick McCann was born in Lewis County, Virginia, December 25, 1822. He was a farmer and a Physician and taught school, too. He was a graduate of Starling Medical College of Columbus, OH. He married Isabella A. Geary at Osborn Mills, May 22, 1851. He was a member of Company K, 7th Ohio Cav., during the Civil War and a regimental surgeon and brigade hospital steward. Patrick and Isabella had six daughters and nine sons. Patrick died at Edison, Nebraska, August 7, 1906. Regards, Jane
