My GG-grandfather, Samuel Francis Smith, also serviced w/OH Reg. and when ill was sent to the Union Hospital in Ashland, KY to recover and served as chaplain and hospital steward there. He also died in Edison, NE. Do you have the names of Patrick's children? Would you be willing to share where you found the information that you have? Are you connected to this Patrick?
