    1. [McCANN] McCann, Mary Ann (b. 1919 - Waterloo, Iowa)
    2. Jane Thank you for taking the time to assist with researching the Census & Archived Newspapers. The information you have forwarded confirms the marriage and location for Mary Ann McCann & John R. Hogan. The lead in Wisconsin is also very promising and Mary L. McCanna could be our Mary Ann McCann. Her husband listed on her death certificate - her birth locaton as Wisconsin - while the information she provided on the birth certificate of her son was Waterloo, Iowa. The time you have spent helping us is greatly appreciated. My area of interest and research is focused in New England, mostly Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine & New York. I have extensive files on the families of Franklin County & Plymouth, Mass., and Windor, Washington and Orange Counties in Vermont. Over the years I've collected a little over 341,000 names in the database with notes and sources. Root families include: Judd; Treat; Webster, Stewart; Price: Twitchell; Hall; Turner; Shurtleff; Thornton; Flint; Huntington; Martin; Cogswell; Doughty; Prince; Doty; Alden; Silvester; Pickles; Parker; Whitcomb; Stockbridge; Foster; Buck; Stetson; Briggs; Randall; Magoun; Hatch; Holmes; Perry; Miner; James; Barrell; Cooke; Ring; Brewster; Otis; Cushing; Clapp; Tilden; Thaxter; Adams; White; Barker; Barber; Tolman; Burr; Ellis; Elmer; Josselyn; McCall, etc. Many of these are descendants of the Pilgrim families, which arrived on the Mayflower. If readers of this list have ties to New England - I would be willing to search the database for possible links to help extend or add information for their areas of research. Thank You again for your assistance. When we can extend the family genealogy for Mary Ann McCann, I will post our finding to the list for future generations of researcher. Readers may also find my research at the LDS FamilySerach Site. Regards, Paul W. Allred pwallred@frontier.com

Found a marriage announcement for John and Mary: Arizona Daily Sun (Flagstaff, AZ) 26 Jun 1947, page five "John R. Hogan 32, Altadena, Cal. and Mary Ann McCann 28, Alhambra, Cal. by Rev. Robert P. Price at Flagstaff, June 24. " Another thought. . . perhaps Mary Ann McCann was a widow, meaning McCann could have been her married name. Reading old newspapers online, I see that there was a Donald Ray McCann age 24 of the Marine El Toro Air Station who died 21 Feb 1945 in Long Beach in an auto accident. Best regards, Jane

Allred >pwallred@frontier.com Welcome to the McCann list, Paul. That looks like a tough request. I don't find anyone who matches. However, there is a "McCanna" family in 1930 Wisconsin: 267 14th Street household #12-34 McCanna, Edward Head renting Male White 44 married at 24 born IA; Father b. Irish Free State; Mother, IL; Roofer " Mary Wife Female White 42 married at 22 born IA; parents b. Irish Free State " Helen Dau Female White 16 b. IA; parents b. IA " Mary L. Dau Female White 12 b. IA; parents b. IA In 1920 they were in Des Moines, Polk, IA. I know the age is off by a year and the middle initial isn't right and the surname is McCanna not McCann, but such findings are not too unusual. I think it might be worthwhile to check on this family. Very best regards, Jane McCann Walsh list administrator

Author: jemwalsh Surnames: McCann, Fogle, Bennett Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1794.1.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please let us know what you learn from the death certificate. I have done a great deal of searching for your James T. One note of caution: Mother's maiden name is a very suspect item on a death certificate. I've seen many that were wrong. The probability of false information increases with estrangement. Also, it is feasible that your Father changed his name. There is an almost two year old Mildred B. McCann in a 1910 household in San Francisco. It appears that this Mildred b. 1908 married a Bennett and died in 1990, Marin, CA. (The CA Death Index says that Mildred's parents were Fred A. McCann & Millie Fogle & Millie is a nickname for Mildred.) Unfortunately, there isn't a Wilson or a James T. in that 1910 household but there is a Frank J. who is five years old and a Maurice F. who is six. In 1920 a Maurice "T." McCann is a lodger in a Taylor household in San Rafael, Marin, CA. Earlier, in the 1900 Census of Amador, CA there is a Fred A. McCann with wife Millie. They have a son named Alvin D. b. Dec 1896. There is an Alvin of the right age with sister Mildred in 1910 San Francisco; their Mother's name in 1910 is listed as "Nellie" which could be an error on the part of the enumerator. Looks as if "Nellie" is divorced. Found a "Frederick" McCann of the right age to be Fred A. in 1920 Oakland, CA, a lodger reported to be a wi! dower, which was a common reporting "error" by those who were divorced. Perhaps James T. was born in Amador, CA and that sounded like a TX name to him. Worth exploring that family further. You should also search the early archives of the McCann RootsWeb list as I believe that there was a CA Bennett researching McCanns. 1. [McCANN] Des of John Power m jane McCann
    2. maggie a
    3. Hi Donald, The John Power I'm looking for lived in Quebec City; his son Patrick was born, married & died there. There were a huge number of Power family members in Quebec City - most living in or around Champlain Street. Unfortunately for me, a lot of them were named John. The 1871 Census has John Power (b. around 1815); Mary (b around 1823) - both from Ireland, and children John (1851); Patrick (1853); Mary (1855) Bridget (1858) and David (1863). The dates here would fit with my Patrick. Also, it's likely that both John P & Mary McCann died after 1879, as they aren't recorded as deceased on Patrick's marriage record. I've found baptismal records for some of these children John - mother listed as Ann Power, sponsor Catharine McKenna (which seems to fit) Mary - mother listed as Mary Mennagh David - mother listed as Mary Memlick It seems that Patrick b. abt 1853, married 1879 (Mary McCarthy) died 1939 (age about 88) was illiterate. He was unable to sign for almost any of the records. This makes me think that his father, John, would also have been unable to write - but that's just a guess. There is also a Mary McCann who died in 1877 (age 77, so b around 1807) in St Bridget's Asylum (for poor and aged) - listed as daughter of Hugh McCann and Mary Lewiston. If this is the same Mary, I'm not sure why she would be listed by her maiden name. One thing that complicates finding John is that if he joined the Armed forces, the death records only show his name, not any family members. Also, the records from Grosse Island are fairly incomplete, and it's possible he died during the cholera epidemics. Not sure if this will help, but twins run in this family. Also, possibly celiac disease - although not sure what it would have been called in those days. cheers, Maggie _________________________________________________________________ Stay in touch. http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9712959
