The oldest is a marker for Daniel McCann who died 8 Sep 1872 aged 77y 4m 22d. Based on the Census of 1850-1870, Daniel appears to have been the Father of Daniel T. McCann 1844-1936 also buried in this cem. with his wife "Catharine Welch" 1853-1917. Several of Daniel & Catharine's sons are buried near them --- Frank H. 1875-1971, Ray A. 1889-1976, and Joseph D.1884-1967 & his wife Blanche C.(Heffley) 1891-1945. Margaret died shortly after William's birth, She is buried in Winnona. Mankato, Minnesota( died April 14, 1878). William's guardian was Dillion Hempsted, from Houston.( we have yet to confirm what connection he has with the family). William did live and was raised with Michael. Michael remarried Maria Frances Rowland McCann in 1882. They had 4 daughters Maude, Margaret, Gertrude and Catherine. They ran a store in town. Michael died in a train accident in Standpoint Idaho July 3, 1892. We also know that his brother Patrick lived in Houston for a time as there was a news article that both Michael and Patrick were summoned by telegram to Minneapolis when their father was gravely ill and later died in April 1892. We also know that their sister Mar! y Margaret McCann lived and married in Houston. She married John Wallace Moore on August 17, 1884 in Houston. We lost track of a sister Margaret Ann born in about 1855 ( not sure of birth place, her family was already in the states at the time, at one point in Mass.) James born in Ireland about 1849. We do have a family picture with he, his wife and 4 children. the pictures has the name Ross, Best & Co. Our Ancestors lived in Wisconsin in 1878, The names of Peter and Margaret have been handed down for generations, but so have so many Irish names. We have three McCann families that we don't have a lot of information about Margaret Ann born about 1855, James and Patrick born in Ireland ,Their sister Mary Margaret McCann born in Wisconsin, married and lived in Houston. -----Original Message----- From: mccann-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mccann-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gc-gateway@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, August 15, 2010 12:05 AM To: MCCANN-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [McCANN] Are there Any Minnesota McCanns here? McCann as he must have been a truly remarkable man. I will email you with a photo of my Uncle and Aunt's wedding. I will also send you an invitation to be a guest on my Richards Tree as you may like to read about my Aunt Eileeen - Eileen Best. Not much information but every little helps. Have you asked the NSPCC if they have any information or records perhaps of children that Rev McCann befriended? Good luck and I would love to see the photo of the Bishop's Chair. With my broadband down for 3 days there was a lot of emails waiting for me and there was another one about Rev. McCann and it was from the Rev. Steven Saxby who says: "I have a Bishop's chair from a redundant church which has legitimately come into my possession. I inherited it from my predecessor when I moved into my current vicarage. Anyway I just googled the name on it to find out which church it came from. I now realise it was St. Paul's at Westcliff (Southend) as the inscription on the chair says it was given in memory of - you guessed it - Rev. Wilton N. McCann - Vicar of that church from 1921 - 1929. I was so glad to discover all your notes. Peace and joy. Fr.Steven." I have asked him if he could supply a photo, fingers crossed, Sue. McCann helped, my mother and her sister, and through posting this enquiry I have found 2 other people who have their own stories. There are many hundreds more. There is a book written by Wilfred Pickles (you may be too young to remember him!) Its called "Ne'er forget the People" and its about people he felt had had a great influence on the 20th Century. One of his subjects was the Rev. McCann. Again thank you for contacting me. with best wishes, Susan. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
