Author: magisterpat Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1764.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Interested in any McCanns from Westmeath, Meath or Cavan. My g-g-grandfather, James McCann, baptized 1829 in Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath was probably the son of Thomas McCann and Catherine Lynch. All of the Thomas/Catherine children were baptized there between 1819 and 1831. However, there is no record of marriage, baptisms, births, etc., for Thomas or Catherine. Both Co. Cavan and Co. Meath are an easy walking distance from their small plot of land in Castlepollard. My guess is that Thomas and Catherine were married outside Castlepollard because there are earlier marriage records than theirs (ca 1818) would have been at the Castlepollard church. And there are plenty of McCann records just across the county lines in both Cavan and Meath, just not Thomas's and Catherine's. Any help? Hi, Folks, Apparently AOL has been bouncing messages from our list to their subscribers, meaning the messages are not reaching our list members who use aol. One other email client has done the same thing today, but only one of our subscribers uses that system. The number of bounces then exceeded our pre-set limit at RootsWeb, so that system automatically un-subscribed each one whose mail system was bouncing back our emails. As a consequence, I've increased our bounce limit and have re-subscribed each of the un-subscribed members. Sometimes this is a transitory thing and sometimes it is more serious. Time will tell. . . So, for those of you who have not been affected, please excuse/ignore this email. For those 22 of you who have been affected, I hope that this email reaches you as a test; if not, I'll receive it back as another bounce! Regards, Jane McCann Walsh, List Administrator

Catherine McCann married Joseph Heuisler in Baltimore. Census forms, newspaper articles and obituaries list Henry McCann as a Baltimore public school teacher, from the 1850-1870 time period. I am interested in learning where in Ireland Henry McCann came from, as well as his wife Margaret's maiden name. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Michael McCann came from Ireland between 1847 and 1850 and settled in Newark. He married Sarah McDevitt in 1850 and they had five sons - Henry, Michael, James, Daniel and John. The only other family information I have on Michael (who came over) is his father's name, Bartholomew. Anyone else out there researching the same? I am descended from Michael McCann who came over probably between 1847 and 1850. I know for sure he was here in 1850 as his marriage record is dated June of that year. He settled in Newark. I have not been able to trace any siblings (though I'm sure there were some). I do know his father was a Bartholomew McCann, but I don't believe he came over. I am sure Michael had other family here at some point - trying to track them down is not easy! lol There were quite a few McCanns who settled in Newark so I don't know if or how they're related. He did have five sons - Henry, Michael, Daniel, John and James. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The parents were Irish-born and the sons both Lancastrians by birth. Francis (40) was a weaver and Ann (30) a cap maker. Samuel's age was given as 10 and John's as 5, but ages were rounded in the 1841 Census. I believe that John was my great-grandfather who was convicted of housebreaking in Manchester in 1857 under the name John Walker and transported to Western Australia in 1858.
