I can not raise my feet to tie my shoes. It is difficult to lower my heels to the ground to walk, so the VA has build me special shoes. My Achilles tendons do not stretch and I am also having shoulder calcification. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. (Other than my father, my three brothers and our children) The closest match is a genetic distance 3, 64/67 match out of Australia. According to FTDNA, not close enough to be considered as "close". There is the possibility that ONE male line may still survive, but the person we are looking for, disappeared in WWII, MIA. There are female surviving members. Admiral AR McCann had three daughters from his legitimate family. His brother died in 1950, having only daughters. That leaves that McCann (as a McCann carrying descendant) line extinct. We may have a number of different genetic McCann families represented here. Regards, Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My youngest uncle, Mike has Charcot Marie Tooth Disease and was diagnosed about 3-4 years ago. My father has significant muscle wasting, Huntington's Disease and Rheumatoid Arthritis...all of which came from the McCann's side. I have fibromyalgia, psoriasis (autoimmune), auto-immune arthritis (not rheumatoid), ADD and calcific tendonitis (calcium deposits in the Achilles roots and shoulder joints). My father has the same thing, he has had his biceps tear from their insertion points and is now totally disabled. I think there is something to the McCann line and significant medical problems. My grandmother, Juanita died in 1990 at the age of 63 from stomach cancer (started as ovarian) and she had Huntington's Disease as well. Her father, Clarence McCann as well as 7 out of 11 of her blood siblings (whole AND half) died from Huntington's Disease. It seems that neuro-degenerative diseases are popping up in the McCann family tree. ! CMT is a form of Muscular Dystophy and is managed by neurology (I worked as a neuro nurse for over 3 years). Huntington's is a deadly genetic neuro-degenerative disease that causes dementia and a bunch of other problems. ADD/ADHD (both my half siblings from my father's side have ADHD and bipolar and are both incarcerated) is neuro-psych...Lou Gerig's is actually ALS and it is deadly within a year or two of diagnosis. Has your son had a nerve or muscle biopsy done? If not, he probably should as that can also pinpoint what's going on with him. I had genetic testing done in 2009 for Huntington's and I do NOT have the gene, thank God! Despite this, I am having some foot/ankle problems that make me suspect CMT...in fact, I had to leave the nursing profession b/c I cannot stand on my feet for 8 hours...let alone 12 without excruciating pain. I wish there was a way to do some familial genetic testing so we can figure out what this is all about! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He has signs of general Muscular Atrophy, at the age of 16. He is a McCann descendant through Admiral Allan Rockwell McCann. They have ruled out Muscular Myopathy and MD1, Now they are testing for MD2. They have ruled out Marfan Syndrome as well as Fragile X. All Three of my children have disabilities, My eldest ha Autism and ADHD, but is functional, James whom theya re investigating, (Loma Linda University and the Mayo Clinic) is 16, and a twin. His sister is Elizabeth, she has cerebral Palsy , hypoataxia, and ADHD. Because of the spectrum of problems in a single family they are doing a comprehensive DNA analysis. Although the McCann line is only 1/8th of their lineage, it could be this line which has brought forth the genetic issues. He died 4 Aug 1924 in San Bernadino, CA. I have pics and information on him in my family tree here. His father was Joseph McCann also born in Indiana. His father, Alexander McCann was born in 1784 in Ireland and immigrated to Indiana. I am 34 years old and having symptoms of CMT, which have prevented me from getting into nursing school, so I will be seeking medical care on this ASAP. My dad has some significant muscle wasting, tremors and clumsiness all of which are classic symptoms of CMT as well as Huntington's which runs through our family line (my genetic testing showed that I do NOT carry the gene for that, thank GOD!!) I'm trying to see if there's another link between our McCanns and CMT. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jane_walsh Surnames: McCann, Hampton, Piatt Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/598.3.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Ruby, There was a Sampson Francis McCann born abt 1904 to Austin McCann and Alice (possibly Hampton). Austin apparently died before 1910 as Alice is in the 1910 Census having married for a second time to Andrew W. Piatt, apparently less than a year prior. With them are: Henry b.c. 1894, Julie b.c. 1897 and Sampson b.c. 1904. At the time of the 1900 Census Austin and Alice are living in Township 10, Choctow Nation Indian Territory. Austin's dob is reported as Feb 1858 in Indian Territory and also that his Father was born in Indian Territory and his Mother in Mississippi. A brother-in-law of Austin, named Van Hampton b. Oct. 1884 in Arkansa is living in their household. Austin may have had an earlier marriage. In the 1885 Census of Choctaw Indians, there is an Austin McCann age 27 with Mulsa McCann 24. Hopefully someone else will recognize this family and be able to help you identify Austin's parents. Best regards, Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Doyle, Wilma, Chris, Hiawatha(Mac), and I believe Pocahontas. Sampson and Henry were killed in 1928. I believe my dad was born in Keota although I am not 100% sure, and his birthdate was 4/23/1923 and it might have been 1924 because he joined the Navy when he was 17.
