My great uncle, Charles McCann, was born in 1919 and married a woman named Viola Doran. They didn't have any children, so finding a connection might be tough. Charles was a war veteran from The Korean War and a picture of him is available on the Korean Warr Memorial website. I welcome any coments from any one who may have information on him or his wife. Some more background: he was born and raised in Long Island City. His mother was Maria Sophie Grahe. His siblings are all from a man named William Joseph Knapp. Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. And then I will look at that link. I hadn't seen that "Group 2" McCain website since Robert McCann's ancestor has been listed. My ancestor, James McCain of Clay Co. AL,, can be seen on this page of the site: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mccaingroup2/g2dna15263.htm Charles McCain is my cousin and we share the same ancestor. Unfortunately we don't know the parents of our James McCain. We've been frustrated for years trying to find out this information. A few years ago I'd thought maybe we could search via the McCann route, but that fizzled, in that the son James of the captioned Dr.James McCann didn't work out as being the same as our ancestor. Now our McCain group has lost its moderator and no one seems to be working the webpage, and it's like we've all given up. As I say, maybe I'll get back into it. If you run onto a link, let me know. Unfortunately it wouldn't let me open the Irish one, maybe because my Ancestry subscription doesn't include international searches. But if my James McCain, who lived in SC, TN, and AL, could have any ancestors mentioned on that site I would upgrade my subscription. What do you think? The other link is actually part of the site I sent you. Maybe you can find someone via that site who knows more than I do about the McCanns. My husband is a Direct decendant of James and Ann Sheilds MCCANN, thru his son John and Ann McDill McCann. I have lots of information to share with other researchers of those decendants who went on to Texas. Would love more. Annette Ditto

Unfortunately I don't know enough about either James McCann to know if they're the same person. I wrote my post 4-5 years ago, but I think I was hoping to get someone to do the DNA on the subject James McCann. As I stated earlier they are one-stepping through possibilities and eliminating various disorders. A medical genealogy is an EXCELLENT idea and incentive for any genealogist. Unfortunately I had little data on health issues on the McCann side to report, but perhaps this group can assist in that. The testing is purely voluntary and at the expense of the testee. Some health insurances can be convinced to pay for some of the lower cost testing. (Less than $250 tests) otherwise it is a costly process. McCann is of course only one of eight family surnames which could host the genetics for the disorders. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
