Author: AlexandersMA Surnames: McCann, McKenna Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1668.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I hope you get this as it's been years since your original post. My Great Great Grandmother was Mary McCann, born in Tyrone (believed to be in "Lifford, Trillick, Co. Tyrone) who married Michael McKenna (not sure where they married, here or there). She had at least two sisters (Catherine and Bridget) and one brother (John), the brother remained in Tyrone at least until the time of her death, April 1911. She could have had more siblings that stayed in Tyrone, but at least Catherine and Bridget came over and died here. I've heard that they may have gone to PA, but have nothing that states that. She did work in the mills in Lowell, Massachusetts. Have you looked in the Lowell, MA area? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We have a photo dated approximately 1924 of the farm house. Article 367 in the history of Johnson Co. I am related to McCann's on my maternal side!!! not the Cutler side. Susan E. McCann, 1838-1913, was my G-G-Grandmother. She was the daughter of William Harrison McCann, 1806-1896 and his wife Sarah M., 1812-1881. She married William Nelson Colegrove. Hope I didn't completely mix you up with my last post!! Guess I was just in too much of a hurry with getting to my preperations for my trip. I do have most of my info on McCanns on my Cutler Family Tree so you might still find something useful there if you choose to visit it. My daughter is having Thyroid surgery and I am going down to stay with her for the week. I am VERY interested in where our connection might be and will try to get a chance to look into it more while I'm away if I can....in the meantime, if you haven't already seen my CUTLER FAMILY TREE on ancestry.com please see if you can get to it. It is public, and I have a quite a bit of info on the McCann's in and around Elmira. My lineage with McCann is through a marriage...I don't have my papers handy but I think Susan McCann married a CUTLER and that would probably be our connection. I have not been able to "place" these McCanns in my own Tree, but I hope they help you in your searching for ties...and then maybe also help me to fill in some branches. Please let me know how things develope for you. Oh, I live only about 12 mi from Elmira, so if you get any leads I may be able to check them out. Have a nice holiday; Sally Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have traced my roots through my father Thomas, his father Frank, then Wallace, Jackson, George, William, and William. The last William (b. circa 1740 Antrim Co. Belfast Ireland) arrived in NYS in 1774 With his wife and three out of four children (Sarah, Janet, and John). William (2) wasn't born yet (I heard that he was born on the ship). 3. My husband's McCann ancestors were located in McNairy Co., Tn, so probably not connected to your McCanns; however I am the newsletter editor for the Macoupin County, IL Genealogical Society.  If you would like me to put a query in our newsletter, The Macoupin County Searcher,  I can do that.  If you know which cemetery in Macoupin County your Leucretia is buried in, that would help.    ________________________________ From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: MCCANN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, May 26, 2011 7:46:54 AM Subject: [McCANN] Lucretia McCann from Pennsylvania This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Margaret and John were both listed as born in Ireland, and reported to have been married for 27 years. John was reported as b. Jul 1856 and Margaret b. Jul 1849. Other children were reported as: Mary MCCANN b: Jun 1874 in PA Lizzie MCCANN b: Feb 1876 in PA Rosa MCCANN b: Jul 1877 in PA Alice MCCANN b: Sep 1883 in IL John MCCANN b: Apr 1888 in IL I did not find John and Margaret in 1910, but have found a widowed Margaret McCann listed as age 62 in the household of a William C. Condon 32 a city policeman w/ wife Alice 31 in the 33rd Ward of Chicago. Their address was 7345 Madison Ave. With the Census, you never know who did the reporting; it could have been a child or neighbor. The part which really doesn't fit is that this Margaret McCann in 1910 is listed having had only four children, three surviving, so maybe that was told by someone who just did not know. Hope this helps. Regards, Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jane_walsh Surnames: McCann Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/390.1.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Terry, The posts to this Board are also gatewayed to the RootsWeb McCann List. So, they have been seen by a fair number of McCann researchers. Since you've not had any responses, thought I'd check the Census. There is a McCann Family in the 1900 Census of Chicago, Cook, IL with a Frank listed as b. PA but his dob is shown as Jan 1879 not Jan 1882 as in your Joseph Frank McCann's two Draft Reg. cards. However this 1900 Chicago McCann family has a Mother named Margaret. And, the Father, John, is a policeman and son, Frank, is working in 1900 as a guard for the Elevated R.R. By 1910, your Frank, w/ wife Pearl, is a policeman, and promoted to Sergeant by 1918. This needs more work, but it appears feasible that John and Margaret were the parents of your Frank Joseph. Also, noted in the Illinois Death Index that there was a Margaret M. McCann who died in Chicago, Cook county, IL 12/9/1942. http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html Regards, Jane, List & Board Admin.
