    3. Sorry. Your post is inconclusive [sketchy] to determine if pursuing a connection is time effective. Please include more points of connection. You introduce Joseph, but switch to John. Who are you researching? Birth dates, spouse name, location, siblings, marriage dates, dates in America, etc. Thanks, E G McCann On 10/10/2011 7:24 PM, gc-gateway@rootsweb.com wrote: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: rrigney728 > Surnames: McCann > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1855.1/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I am looking for Joseph McCann's father. Author: jane_walsh Surnames: McCan, Dare Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1858.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Found your family in the 1900 Census of Buckheart, Fulton co. IL. They are listed as "McCan" and indexed as "Mc Can." That space can make a difference! Frank is 35 b. Jan 1865 in IL, but everyone in his household is listed as b. IL so that's a wee bit suspect. Rose is listed as b. Feb 1867; Ethel, Nov 1886; "Deltha," Jan 1890; Edna, Apr 1892; and Ezra, Sep 1894[?]. At the time of the 1880 Census of Fulton Co. IL, Frank McCan 15 and Wm McCan 22 are listed as brothers-in-law of a Parks Dare 50 whose wife is Polly age 40. The Father of Polly, Wm, and Frank was reportedly born in TN. At the time of the 1850 Census of Fulton Co., IL, there is a William McCan age 38 Farmer b. MO [?] with wife Harriet 33, dau. Polly 9, and slso Sarah, James, and Malicia. Look for a history of Fulton County, IL. Regards, Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jane_walsh Surnames: McCann, Fouts, Slater, Woods Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1858.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Angela, I did a little searching and found a widowed Rosetta McCann in the 1910 Census of Canton, Fulton County, IL with the following children: Ethel L., Delphia G., Edna H., Ezra L., and Russell. There's a large gap between Ezra's age and Russell's age, so Russell may be the son of one of Rosetta's daughters. Rosetta and Ethel L were reported as born in Illinois, as was Russell, but the others were reported as born in OK. Could not locate the family in the 1900 Census! Found a WWI Draft Registraton Card for Ezra L. McCann in Canton, Fulton, IL stating he was born 11 Sep 1895 in Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, Oklahoma. Found a 1917 marriage index record for Ezra McCann and Myrtle Slater in Fulton County, IL. By 1930 Ezra McCann and wife Nola M. appear in Rock Island, IL with a son named Frank L. McCann and three daughters. Found a death index record for a Frank Lyle McCann who died 2 Apr 1940 in Moline, Rock Island, IL. Also, found a 1914 marriage index record in Fulton IL for Rose Fouts and H. Harrison Woods. However, I was not able to locate Rose prior to 1910 or after that 1914 marriage --- if that was the same person. I recalled something about McCanns being in the Dawes records concerning Indians in Oklahoma. Found a Sampson Francis McCann b.c. 1904; his Father's name was Austin McCann. Austin was reportedly born in Feb 1858; in 1902 he was reported as a Choctaw Indian age 44, a half-blood. That caused me to wonder if your Frank S. might have been a Francis Sampson McCann, but I did not find anyone by that name. The Dawes files are available now via Fold3 which has a free trial available. You might search for Delphia there. Hope something here helps you. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: starcat440023 Surnames: McCann, Stephenson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1854/mb.ashx Message Board Post: James M. McCann, b. 1808 in Ireland, came over sometime in the 1830's, and settled in Alabama, first Morgan County, then Talladega County. He married Lavina Stephenson in 1837 in Morgan County, and got a land grant in Talladega County in 1839. He apparently was not related to the other McCanns in that county, as they were from Tennessee, and he was an immigrant. I've wondered if he came over with a group of McCanns that settled in Louisiana at that time, but I can't find a connection. He had only 1 child, who in turn had only 1 child to live to adulthood, and the same for another generation. We're not a family tree, we're a pole! Does anyone know of connections he might have. Census records have his birthplace listed alternately as Ireland or Dublin. I can't find an immigration record that is definitely him. My only hope after 30 years of research is that someone from his parent's family can connect with him. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
