I never thought of it this way but maybe William is James' son. This James was born in 1759 according to his Rev. War pension records in National Archives. James moved to Ohio to live near his son Thomas ( He was the only McCann in the area according to 1820-1830 census records other than James) in Guernsey now Noble Co., Ohio which would have been closer than travelling to IN. James' name was misspelled in the Guernsey Co. History as Jones and I've found DAR references to this mistake. This does make sense. Are there any court documents or local histories in IN that may give a clue? After all I do owe Don for the info on my James and other records which helped me get farther in research. I'm now working with a wonderful lady in Iowa who is helping me there and I'm helping her with her research here. Maybe there would be someone in Iowa who needs info where you are Don. Please contact me for info updates Don on Thomas McCann if you'd like or anyone else who may have a connection. My ancestry comes from his sister. They had another sister and brother (James) that are documented in a letter from a Liverpool letter (from James) of 1885. This John would have been born about 1816 in Ireland (I am still chasing where, but I believe it was in the Armagh area). Anyway, you can read the letter in the source notes on my website in reference to the MACAN/McCANN surname. I would like to be able to find this John as he is the addressee of this letter. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=agthorn

I believe that the family originated from the Armagh area of Ireland but my reason for this inquiry is to find out as much as I can about this family in Liverpool. James was born about 1820, and married Ann Jane McWilliams about 1865 according to this letter. They had 3 children, two that lived beyond infancy: James (1867) and Robert John (1869). I would be most appreciative if any and all guideance on how to go about locating this family in Liverpool. I am also currious as to what "area" that "Tue Brook" may refer to. Also, if there are any other MACAN (McCANN) researchers in Liverpool or Armagh County Ireland area, please, let's share notes. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=agthorn
Still searching for James McCann who purchased the McCann farm in Adams County, from Stephen McCann who then lived in the Town of Gordon, State of Kansas, Stephen was the orginal owner of this property buying it from the Government. James McCann, at the time of the land transaction, lived in Wisconsin. When the land was sold to Peter McCann in 1864, James McCann lived in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. Does anyone relate to this James McCann? Ann T. Meyer(Ann McCann)

Ann Meyers requested that I send this picture of the McCann coat of arms to the McCann list. It is a large colorful version. Very bright. But it does lack the salmon. You can see the other Coat of Arms in the Photo section of my web page ---url below. Motto and description of the symbolism of the Coat of Arms may be seen on the same page under "Related Files" --url below.
