Hi listers, It has been awhile since I have posted on this list. I am looking for information on "MCCANNA" or "MCCANN" which it was sometimes found. Who moved to Missouri from Pennsylvania. "William McCanna" was born in Pa. in 1832 or 1833. The son of "Barnabas McCanna" & "Mary Ann Walker". He married a woman by the name of "Sarah E. ?" (maiden name unknown). "William McCanna" was in the Civil War & enlisted in B Co, 78th Inf. Reg of Pa. Sometime after the War, he & his wife & children moved to Missouri. They were listed in the 1870 Census in Carroll Co. Grand River Twp. "William McCanna" was a carpenter & he died in 1878 there. His wife "Sarah ? McCanna" was listed as head of household in the 1880 Census in Carroll County, DeWitt town or Twp. They had the following children: Ezra J. McCanna.....born...1854 in Pa. John..........................born...1855 in Pa. Laura Rebecca.........born...1858 in Pa. Isabella......................born..1859 in Mo. William.......................born...1863 in Mo. Ulysus S....................born....1866 in Mo Alice..........................born.....1878 in Mo Female......................born......1870 in Mo (this daughter I couldn't make out the name). I believe I found 2 marriages for 2 of the daughters. "Isabella McCanna" married Harry Baird in Carroll Co, Mo. on Aug 25, 1878 "Laura R. McCanna" married Darwin A. Clark in Carroll Co, Mo. on Nov. 3, 1877 If anyone has information on this family or has access to cemeteries in this county of Missouri or can help in any way to find information. I would appreciate any help given. I am also willing to trade information. This is all I have been able to find to date. Thanks Sarah
Dorothy, Do you have what state John was mustered from. I think I have a small bit on a John McCan from Maryland, but do not know what branch of the service he was in. Laurelen

Mary and All McCanns from Missouri: I find that Stephen mcCann bought land from the Government in 1857.Adams County County, Later known as Juneau Co. Wisconsin, Plymouth, He then sold it to James McCann from Wisconsin, At which time the transfer was made in the town of Gordon, State of Kansas, Missouri, County of Johnson,This was in 1864, It was then sold to Peter McCann, My Great grand father that same year, Today that farm is still called the McCann farm, there is a McCann Road and a McCann Hill, In 1867 this farm was divided between Thomas McCann and James McCann and his wife Mary, After they had the farm, they immediately sold and we haven't been able to find them since. At one time James McCann lived in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, They all seem to relate, When the farm was divided the names on the deeds were from Peter and Margaret McCann, My Great Grand Parents. This might be far afield, but thought I'd mention it, as we know for sure one of the McCanns went toMisssouri, Ann T. Hi, Folks, So glad to see Dodie and Lynn jumping in with messages, too! Did find something of more substance last evening. In the Ancestry.com Gene Pool there is now a Mary McCann who was married to a David BAY. They had a son named Hugh BAY who was listed as born in 1786 in Westmoreland Co., PA. A daughter, Jane BAY, was born in 1790, Westmoreland Co. and from there the family appears to have moved first to Bourbon Co., KY where James BAY was born and then on to Hamilton Co., OH where their other children: Thomas, Samuel and John were born. Does anyone know who this Mary McCann b. before 1772 was? Based on her age and the names of her children, she might have been Mary daughter of Thomas McCann b. 1743 Ireland and Jane STEWART who died in 1784. Thomas appears on tax lists in Harrison Co., [W]VA in 1785 and had remarried by 1795. However, he apparently settled in Harrison County as early as 1775 given the following land records: Thomas McCANN, 300 acres on Davisson's Run, adjoining the land of Thomas BERKELY, to include his settlement made in 1775 and Thomas McCANN, 1000 acres adjoining his settlement made in 1775. Mary: Our Mccanns bought their farm from a McCann in Missouri, Will look up the deed and let you know exactly when and where. Thanks , and even though we are looking in a particular State, we do find that we relate to others. I , myself do have ancestorss from Mass,Wisconsin, Minnesota, and some of my Dads Sisters went to California to live. Of course, now the names would not be McCann. I relate to the Hunns and,Kenyons,, Also, Have never heard from anyone who knew of our family when we lived in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, My father ran a Wet Wash Laundry there in the early 1900,with his brother John Edward McCann, Ann T. Hello all: It is so gratifying to see the McCann list coming to life again, and here is something that I thought interesting enough to share with you all. I found this John McCan Pvt. on a muster roll, showing he served in the Rev War, this card shows he was in the Company of Capt. William Potter. Naval Unit. Muster of the ship Bull Dog in March 1 to April 1 of 1777. Serving on the ship at age 32. (Records of the Comptroller General ) Does anyone have any info on "this" John McCan? Have noticed throughout my research that there were quite a few McCans that were sailors and served on ships. None have been traced that I know of. Regards to all Dorothy
What is the URL for the McCann site you are talking about. I have McCann in McLennan County, Tx and also Guilford Co., NC, Tennessee, And Shackleford County, TX. Would like to compare. Annette Ditto

Hi, again Folks, As I mentioned earlier, Ann's plea got to me today and I was searching for something "new" to add to the list. Found a Mary McCann who married a David BAY some time before 1795. Supposedly they had a son named Hugh BAY who was born 10/31/1786, but I'm wondering if this might have been 1796. That is because their other children are born in the 1790's and 1800's. The Names and dob's of their children are: Hugh 10/31/1786 James 3/10/1795 Jane/Jean 6/8/1790 John 3/9/1803 Samuel 7/12/1800 David 2/10/1798 Best regards, Jane
