    1. [McCANN] John McCann Butler Co., OH b. circa 1810
    2. Jane McCann Walsh
    3. Hi, Folks, While studying another line, I found this John McCann who was apparently living in Butler Co., OH or thereabouts when he married Mary WINN dau. of Jonathan Winn and Elizabeth BOLTINGHOUSE. Mary Winn is a descendant of my WYNNE ancestor who was an early Quaker purchaser in PA in the 1680's. Does anyone have any idea who this John McCann might have been? Best regards, Jane

Surnames: McCann/Prince/Leggett Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QOz.2ACEB/718.1 Message Board Post: So far as I know; McCann is actually quite Irish with some Scottish mixed in. Variations are McCan, McCanse, Canse, Canna, Cana, Macan and a number of others. There is an excellent map showing populations of McCanns in Ireland thru the years. I tried to put a link in here but it wouldn't go so here is the web address. A pain to type but perhaps you can cut and paste. I think you'll find it most interesting. You will find tons info re: McCanns on almost every website dealing with Irish Genealogy. Hope this is of some help. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dgarvey/surnames/McCann/griff_mccann.html Lynn

    3. Can someone who is a more careful researcher than I provide all the census of 1800 listings for a John McCann? Also 1790? I am unable to secure this from my library at present and am trying to link the 1790 Johns to 1800 Johns and then to see if these same Johns are in the same location in 1810. I wold hope, although not overly confient because of boundry changes, family moves, etc. to try to find out who is unaccounted for and might be the John who is on the 1810 Wilkes county North Carolina census. If possible, please help me again on this. Jim Knoxville, Tn.

    3. Hi Denise: Do you still have info on the deaths of the McCanns in Mass? Would you please check to see if there is one listed for a Jane McCann? She came over to the United States in 1853, she was 3 years old at the time. Don't know for sure, the names of Jane and James could have been mixed up on the census, I did find a birth record for a Margaret Ann McCann born in 1855? A Jack Stanton found my McCann family from Ireland and the ship etc for me. Peter McCann was over in Mass most likely in 1850. I did find him on a census then. Will have to check it out again I appreciate anything you can find out for me. Ann

    2. amccann74
    3. Hi to all : I don't know where John R. Stanton found my recent request about Thomas McCann. He had CD on "Irish to America" He found them in 1853 instead fo 1852, There is an added name to our family on that list, Her name is Jane, She would have been born in 1850, as they show her age as 3 yrs old. He tells me that if I can think of another family name that would have accompanied them, he will look up that for me. God Bless him, Ann T. Meyer (Nee Ann McCann) Never give up hope, and keep Praying.

    3. I do have a lot of info from Mass, as I've been looking for my family there for over two years. Just who are you looking for? Will look up all the info and get back to you, It's difficult to find the census, You have to know exactly where they lived. I did find a Peter McCann there in the 1950 census, but living with another family. I have no idea other than what Linda McCann says from a letter from James Clifford (Pony)McCann and his sister who said John was James,s 1797 father.James came from VA.He died in IL.,but i don,t know where. The James that was 52yrs.old would have been born about 1767.He is buried in Connersville City cem.He died 5-26-1819 I believe. This info came from the state archives ,but was gathered by the genealogy soc. There is a newer cem.in Connersville. Some people who were originaly buried in Connersville city cem.were moved to the newer cem. ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 1. [McCANN] Elizabeth b. 1787 m. David JOHNS Whitely Twp., Greene Co., PA
    2. Jane McCann Walsh
    3. Hi, Folks, Today Brian JOHNS shared with the Greene Co., PA list a query about the burial location of George JOHN b. 1754 and his wife Dorothy WELLS who had been married in Cumberland Co., PA. circa 1778-1779. Brian also mentioned that he was interested in any other JOHNs data anyone might have. He shared the url for his website suggesting that we check that first. http://johnsfamilytree.tripod.com/ I have some JOHNS data so I went to his website and immediately spotted this Elizabeth McCANN b. 1787 who married around 1805-1806 David JOHNS b. 1784 in Greene Co., PA. Having helped a fellow McCann researcher locate the original copies of early Greene County , PA tax records, I have some notes on the McCanns in Whitely Twp., Greene County from 1806-1819. There were: James and Wm., and then Thomas and finally a George. And, the 1800 census may hold a clue, too. In 1800, there was a James McCann 26-45 in Whitely Twp., Greene Co., PA with a daughter aged 10-15. That James may be the father of this Elizabeth b. 1787. Has anyone else identified who this Elizabeth might be? Oh, and I have invited Brian to join us but have not heard back from him yet.
