Is your family linked to the family os S. Wolin who posted above? Or to the McCann's of West Meath-see above? I have William McCann (b Dec 1820)coming to New York in 1847 with his sister Ann (b abt 1827-30). They came from Fallaghearn, county Tyrone. They arrived in NY and moved pretty quickly to MD. Then to California. I have never been able to tell if other sibs came with them. Wm was 27 when he came. His parents were dead when they came to the USA. I am interested in what you find from the family trees. Good luck, Lin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jemwalsh Surnames: McCan, McCann, Wisdom Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1867.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Linda, The recommended approach for your off-subject inquiry is to start a new thread with a new Subject heading so that your query is easier for someone to locate in the future. That said, Linda, your Joel Albert McCann in 1870 could easily have spelled his name as "McCan" at an earlier time. I've tried searching for your Joel Albert McCann with little luck. Did locate a marriage record for Joel A. McCann and "Addeline E. Wisdom" dated 18 Sep 1856 in Leflore County, not Sunflower, MS. Saw their 1870 Census enumeration in Sunflower, so you would think that they would be in either Leflore or Sunflower in 1860 but I've not been able to locate them via an index, using lots of spelling variations. Finally found that there is no listing for either Sunflower or Leflore counties in the 1860 Mississippi Census! Perhaps those records were lost. Hopefully, someone who has researched your McCanns will respond. Best regards, Jane Board Admin. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jemwalsh Surnames: McCan, McCann Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mccann/1867.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: This is not my family, but I do try to help other McCann researchers. In the 1860 Census of Troy, Rensselaer county, NY, there is a James McCan age 40 b. Ireland with wife Mary age 30 b. Ireland, and son Charles age 8 b. NY. It is feasible that your Charles McCann wanted to appear older than his wife, but was not. That's also about the time when many folks with the "McCan" surname began adding another "n." Hope this is your family. Regards, Jane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. McCann (1874-1915) and my great-grandmother Florence (McCann) Danforth (1878-1941), both born in or near Troy, NY. Census data indicates that Charles McCann's father was born in Ireland, and he may also have been named Charles. Catherine O'Loughlin father, Timothy O'Loughlin was born in Ennis, Clare (b. abt 1824) - (died bf. 1891, in Rensselaer, NY) and emigrated around 1835, entering at New York. Timothy was a bootfitter and saw significant combat in Civil War. His father was Tim/Timothy O'Loughlin b. abt 1793 in Burren, Clare, Ireland. His mother was Jane NLN, born in Tulla, Galway.
