I am researching my surname MACKABEE, which was changed to Mc Abee by my grandfather about 1915. However, with the multiple ways available for spelling my surname, I can't rule any of them out as being "wrong". From census lists of 1850 and 1860, I know there are MCABEEs living in these counties: C.W. McABEE - Fred. Bucky's Town 1850 & 1860 James MCABEE - Harford Abingdon Dist 1860 John Mc Abee - Harford Abingdon Dist 1860 Joseph Mc Abee - Queen Anne Centreville 1860 * Any info would be greatly appreciated. My line of McAbee/MACKABEE "starts" in Queen Anne Co., 1860 Joseph Mc Abee (30) Susan (wife - 30) Mary (dau - 3) Susan (dau - 1) Oral family history says two borthers had a "fight" and thereafter never spoke to another. Coincidentally (?), my Joseph shows sons (1880) census: Joseph John James - possible relationship to John, James in Harford County?
