MC BEE, 73, JOPLIN GROCER, DIES Lifelong Resident of District Formerly Was Teacher at Neosho and Other Towns John Granville McBee, 73 years old, proprietor of a grocery store at 2531 Empire Avenue and a lifelong resident of this district, died at 4:55 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home at 2531 Empire Avenue. He has been in failing health a year and bedfast for three months. Mr. McBee was born in September 18, 1862 at Elm Springs, MO, near Neosho. He graduated from the old Neosho college at Neosho 49 years ago. Following his graduation he taught in the college for two years and later he taught in various schools of the district for 10 years. He came to Joplin 15 years ago from Neosho. He was a member of the Elm Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth McBee, two sons, Willie McBee of Mission City, IA, and Cecil McBee, 1524 Pennsylvania Avenue; a stepson, Charles Sheeks of Spurgeon; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Stella Brooks, 1830 Moffet Avenue, Mrs. Lillie Wilkerson, 1413 North Street, and Mrs. Minnie Brooks of Palermo, CA; a sister Mrs. Melenda Davis of Tolar, Tex; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
