I found a mention of the Knights of Macabee on the Crawford Co. AR list, in a posting of the subjects in the 1912 newspaper Van Buren Press. This intrigued me, so I did a Google search, and came up with a roster of members in TN: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tncrocke/fampics/kotm/kotm4.html and a post on the NYFingerLakes-L http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/NYFingerLakes/2000-04/0955631399 The author said, "I believe it was an organization which paid accident and death benefits to its members. I wrote to their office in Southfield, Mich - their full name on the answering letterhead is THE MACCABEES International Fraternal Society." The post has a contact address for the collection of memorabilia that they donated to the Burton Historical Collection at the Detroit Public Library. I'm not clear that these are the same organization, or two different ones with similar names. Has anyone researched this? I'm wondering if the source was the Biblical Maccabees, or our MacAbee/McBees? Just following my nose, Valorie
