    3. | ok now for the one wierd one or two you decide | McGehen M.J.(female) J.Wood 3/19/1845 | McGhehean M.J. J. Moore 3/19/1845 | Ok I am ready for someone to explain the above to me...just | curious..do | these people belong to anyone? So who did M.J. marry Wood or Moore or | are they in fact two seperate people ? *[Ron, if you're reading a transcribed copy, that one could be put down to irresponsible transcript typing. I personally don't mind finding something like this as long as the typist says; "I couldn't tell which it was so I put both"] | Washington Co. tax lists from 1814-1817 | McGee George 1814-1816 with one marked under WP | John 1814-1817 and 1819 with 1 marked under WP | Robert 1815 1 WP 1BP | Wm. 1815,1816,1818,1819 1 WP 1Bp marked also in 1815 | Found inventory for Leann McGee widow of Wiliam deceast 9/12/1840 | DEEDS | Grantee Grantor date | McBEE Samuel William McBEE Jr. 10/28/1791 | Wm Sr. James McBEE 11/27/1788 | James Jr. State of NC 11/10/1784 | Wm. State of NC 11/10/1784 | Do you suppose these are McGees not McBees? | more deeds | McGee John to Jake Broyles 11/27/1837 | John to John Lott 9/8/1818 | McKie John to John McGee 2/12/1800 | McGee Wm to Wm Hoss 2/17/1837 | John " James Beard 12/26/1836 | now these people were in Washington Co.Tn at the date after their | names | Isreal Maghee 6/20/1789 | Sam and wife McGehan 8/22/1835 | William MAGBEE 1782 | William Sr. MAGBEE 8/7/1792 | 1779-1821 | McGee John | Wm. | George | McGhee Wm | the above were mentioned in various inventories of estates *[I think that the way it was spelled depended a lot on the way it was pronounced. If they couldn't read and write, then they wouldn't know how it was spelled. I found Magby and Mabry listed in the same household, and I think in this case, the transcriber read the census taker's handwriting one way for some, and read if differently for the rest.] Our family tradition says the name is "Megabee, but spelled like in the Bible" Now that one is open to interpretation, since I've not found any Megabees, plenty of Magbys but it could have easily been MacBee, Mackabee or any of the others. We took it to mean hard 'g' sound, short 'a' sound. The Magee family originated from Island Magee, Antrim, Ireland, as did the McCullars who imigrated with them, (many different spellings for that one too). Magee has been spelled McGee, McGhee, McGehee....etc...ad infinitum. LOL. What I find curious is that I know Vardry was familiar with some of my family in NC, Rutledge, Armstrong, Abernathy, Beaty, Belk, Chamberlain. He witnessed several of their marriages as a clerk. I suspect that he was connected to the family later down the line, I just can't find it. My Baker gg grandmother was Margaret Magby. Okay, I've bent your eyes enough. LOL. 3. The only thing out of this that I referenced was the MagBee and McBee deeds from Washington Co. TN/NC. PML searches are provided to the paying supporters of Rootsweb (no longer available) and I always cite the finding in its entirety unless it is a listing of many surnames not related such as a marriage listing transcription. Thanks for your reply though, I wasn't aware of the information you sent.
