    1. [McBEE] Re: Zadoc McBee
    2. I have been trying to make a definitive connection to Zadoc/Zadock McBee, from Prince Georges Cty, for many years but have been unsuccessful in my attempts. My earliest McBee ancestor was William McBee, born sometime between 1810 and 1824, according to different sources. I do not know who his parents were and haven't been able to connect him to any other McBee. Information passed down said he was a brother to Zadock McBee, however there are many Zadock's in this line, and little documentation for the years prior to 1850. The earliest mention of this family seems to be in the 1790's in Prince Georges Co., MD. There were 5 sons (and 3 daughters) born to Zadock and Anne McBee. The McBee's are said to have come from Scotland. The son's were Zadock, Philip, Walter, William and Alexander. According to a book account, (I have a copy if anyone is interested) after the family migrated to Virginia, one son, William, left and was never heard from again. I don't believe "my" William is descended from him, as my William was living in the same area as Zadock and Alexander, in the 1850's, in Monongalia Co., Virginia, and would have certainly have been known to them. What makes matters difficult, is that all the brothers named their sons after each other so that the family is full of Zadocks, Williams, Alexanders, Philips...etc. >From what I have found, I am leaning toward William being the son of Alexander, however I have no documentation to prove it. William died in 1887, seemingly, without a will. William McBee married Elizabeth Shafer/Shaver in about 1850, and together had 8 children. William Porter, Mary, John Alexander, Nancy Jane, Winfield Scott, Lee Roy, Sarah and Eliza McBee. If anyone has any information on this family, I would be most interested in communicating.
