Ava Elizabeth is the daughter of Burton McBee and Mary A. Burk. Further information on this family below. Much of the information was sent to me by David Wallace, a descendant of Ava Elizabeth. David got the information from Ava Elizabeth who talked about her family to one of her family members who wrote down the things she talked about. _____________ Burton McBee, son of Caswell McBee and Mary (Polly) A. (Peak) Peck, b. in Tennessee ca 1824, d. before 1900 in Hickory Valley, TN, m1. January 3, 1848 (marriage license January 1, 1848) in Claiborne County, TN to Mary A. Burk, daughter of David Burk and Mary A. Dinkins(?). Mary A. Burk was born ca 1824 in Tennessee, died ca March 1866 in Powell Station, TN. Burton McBee m2. to Mary C. Koontz February 21, 1869 in Union County, TN. Mary C. Koontz was born February 1850 in Tennessee. Children of 1st marriage: 1. William Winfield Scott McBee b. ca 1848 in Claiborne County, TN. From David Wallce's info, he went by the first name of Scott and had four children. Reportedly went blind. 2. Ava Elizabeth McBee (listed as Ava A. on 1850 census) b. ca 1850 in Walker's Ford, Claiborne County, TN, died December 13, 1899 in Lebanon, Linn Co.,OR, m. Pharaoh Lindsay Wallace November 27, 1870 in Tennessee. Pharaoh Lindsay Wallace b. January 30, 1846 and died in Lebanon, Linn Co., OR, December 12, 1899. Per David B. Wallace, Ava Elizabeth lived with her grandmother about 2 1/2 miles up Hinzes Creek from the Mt. Hebron church until she was grown. Moved some time after her marriage to Oregon with her husband. 3. James M. McBee b. ca 1852 in New Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN. 4. David Lenard McBee b. ca 1854 in Tennessee, possibly died in Texas, m. Louana Jones ca 1885 in Texas. Per David Wallace (from Ava Elizabeth's information), Lenard McBee moved to TX with his grandfather, Caswell McBee. Leonard had children named Almeda, Clint and Burt. On the 1870 Union Co. census there is a David McBee age 17 living with David Burk, Mary Burk, Eliza Graham, W. H. Wallace, Lucinda Wallace (daughter of David and Mary Burk) and their son John D. Wallace. Ava Elizabeth does not list David among her brothers and sisters, but on the census there is a child named David in the family. From info received on a Lenard McBee who is in Texas, he is the same age as David. Until further information is received on whether the Lenard in TX and the David in TN are different people, it is assumed that David and Lenard are the same person. 5. Sarah "Puss" McBee b. ca 1855, m1. John Coppock March 10, 1881 (marriage license on March 9, 1881) in Union County, TN, m2. John Wilkerson. On the 1880 Union Co. census Sarah McBee, Servant, age 25, is living in the household of William Mitchell and Mary McBee's (her sister- child #7 below). 6. Elmira McBee b. ca 1856 in Tennessee. 7. Mary Ann "Pop" McBee b. September 10, 1857 in Tennessee, d. December 22, 1928 in Knox County, TN., buried in Hill Cemetery, Knox County, TN, m. William Albert "Bud" Mitchell October 22, 1873 in Tennessee. William Mitchell, son of Gavin Mitchell and Sarah Elizabeth Ore, b. February 10, 1855 in Tennessee, d. died March 10, 1940 in Knox County, TN, buried in Hill Cemetery, Knox County, TN. 8. Richard McBee b. after 1860 in Tennessee. Per David Wallace, moved to Lexington, KY. Richard's children are Jim, Leonard and Odella 9. Margaret McBee b. after 1860 in Tennessee. Per David Wallace, Margaret died young. 10. Minerva McBee b. after 1860 in Tennessee. Per David Wallace, she married a Watterman and then a Brumweaver or Brumenuer. May have been living in Montana. Her children are George Ernest, William Victor and Helen. The names of Burton McBee and Mary Ann Burk's last three children are from their sister, Ava Elizabeth. There is no evidence that I have been able to find in any census record of these children. According to Ava Elizabeth, after her mother died, her father, Burton, abandoned his children who were sent to live with family members. The information was sent to me by David Wallace, a descendant of Ava Elizabeth McBee Wallace. My theory about why it is so hard to find info on Burton and Mary Ann's children is that it is probable that some of the children were sent to live with McBee families and since the children's surname is also McBee, it will be nearly impossible to distinguish them from the natural children of the family. Per Ava Elizabeth McBee Wallace, Mary Burke McBee died at Powell Station. She had a baby (probably in January of 1865 or 1866), she never recovered. Died in three weeks of 'childbed fever.' Died in March. Burton is listed on Union County Dist. #3 Tax lists for 1856 (Pathways, Vol. 10, #1) and 1857 (Pathways, Vol. 14, #4). Also listed on Dist. 3 Tax list in Pathways 7, #2. On the 1850 Claiborne Co., TN census Burton McBee is listed as Barton Burton along with Mary A. McBee and two children (William W.S. McBee and Ava A. McBee). By the 1860 cenus, the family is in Anderson Co., TN - Burton McBee 36 (Farmer), Mary M. 36, Winfield S. 12, Elizabeth 10, James M. 8, David 6, Elmira 4, Mary A. 2. On the 1880 Burton is in Union Co., TN with his second wife (also named Mary) - Burton McBee 52, Mary 38, Tennessee 13, James A. 11, Wiley T. 8, Nicholas 3, Malisa 3/12 b. Feb. If anyone knows any more information about these "missing" children of Burton McBee and Mary Ann Burk, I sure would be grateful to receive it. So far I haven't had much luck finding them.
